True and not true. Unlike car industry, in trucking the process of adoption good and useful technologies is barely successful. DEF is known almost 20 years, but it implementation in US you could barely name 'successful'. And no Mercedes, no other freaky Volvo or DAF could help their US partners to make really good truck.

    Cetane+ and Schwinder Thank this.

Reason for this was most of the companies have gone for cheap quick fix to meet regulation on existing available outdated technologies, result we knew pre-mature failures, specially on fixes. Look now all companies are coming up with complete new revamped products like Detroit with Amplified Common rail injection whole new technology from Mercedes Benz, Paccar with their own motor(from DAF)...etc. Why CAT left the ground. Fact is US companies needs to invest in new technologies or have to pay the price for technology to their partners rather than go for unreliable cheap fixes on their existing inefficient stuff to make it run.

the only US company that makes EPA and Euro-5/6 engines is Cummins. They cooperate with Scania (WV groupe). Navistar develop small engines only. MaxxForce is really MAN CRD engine. They tried to push Euro-IV PM-Kat technology to USA but got the same problems like in EU with loosing Catalistic converter efficiensy and they had to shift to DPF.

Seems to me EPA and ECE play the same game in cooperation becouse new emission laws in EU and USA looks like written by one hand. It is not all, new DOT regulations will make US truck makers use EBS and Disk brakes not like option. ESP would be standard too soon. In EU disk brakes appeared 15 years ago with ABS by Knorr and Wabco. Really EBS is expencive toy.... really expencive

Because we're American and not used to ugly trucks. If we were from Europe we would probably be used to it and wouldn't know any different. Psychology 101

Scania is really a inovative truck manufacturer in Europre. Scania is the first one to offer turbo-compounding about 2 decades ago, what is now offered in US by Detroit in their DD16. Scania is also famous for its fuel economy in Europe, specially because of its 12-speed transmission and drive axles. Now Scania is owned by MAN and VW owns MAN obviously Scania too.

I read about it. Another electronic device prone to fail. Even 6x6 comparing to 6x2 ABS add $1500 to the truck's list price. EBS should be even more expensive.
