    Mack
A hood.............easy to open ,not so easy to work on the engine(specially those short hoods)
A COE...........you have to clear the cab ,then pump to tip it over but nothing around the engine that is in your way.So easier to work on.

End result: as with everything in life there is no perfect just shades off gray.

My uncle is a mason. Doesn't mean i know how to lay block. My grandfather was a fighter pilot, doesn't mean i know how to successfully run an airline.

Besides which didn't you state a couple pages back how your dad chooses to pay the ridiculously high tax penalty instead of buying a modern euro truck. Seems to me if these trucks are as efficient and profitable as you claim, he would buy one instead of running his archaic equipment.

On a short hood with half the engine under the cab is a royal pai to get to anything at the rear of the engine, but on a real hood like a 379 pete or w900 kw, you can easily access every part of that engine, and even the top of the tranny.

yes he does, well it is rather emotional choice, from economic side this makes no sense, but his job is enough profitable to cover that too

in 20years mercedes cut fuel consumption for 22%, now with latest engines you can add additional 3% on that.

since fuel is largest part of pie , it makes pretty clear that running new truck is only option these days, add tax, add downtime, add risks of something to go wrong- add warranty that makes you safe, add tolls and permits , add safer trucks that would be able to protect driver, and avoid accidents , add more comfort, easier to drive truck that is superior in any field, where new truck is bad are: empty weight, parts price, and complexity to repair something itself.

And these outweigh every single benefit. If you ever buy one you will understand. Until then you are just regurgitating sales brochure bulletin points.
