His family did. He said he went another route a few posts back. But i agree, he knows quite a bit about trucking on that side of the pond. But almost nothing about trucking on this side of the pond. And it takes a special kind of arrogance to insist your stuff could do the job better in an environment you have so little knowledge of.

@daf105paccar on the other hand, i could sit down and talk shop with over a beer. He has the knowledge without the arrogance. He understate that while a truck might be perfect to run between munich and berlin, doesnt mean it's perfect to run from jersey to California.

now it makes no sense at all, he would lose lot of value over short time so in his position it makes no sense to get brand new one. but get one few years old that is already reasonable priced would be profitable, from tax side and you could sell it for same amount of money or close to price you pay for it. it is rather emotional choice, you can get nice late MP2 for 40000 which could work easy for 10-15more years without problems, mp3 are already priced bit too high, for not too much better shape, also mp2 have no problems at all, mp3 automatics have clutch problem, and alternator problems.

until 3years ago market was unstable and at that point it did not make sense to own anything and this is reason why he slow down. 3years ago market get stable again and than it would make sense to get something new

I remember the times that those EU trucks drove all the way from Western Europe to Iran, over very poor roads. And not a few trucks, no it was a very busy route.

I've talked to two drivers that made the run from Western Europe to China and back several years back. Other than the adventure part of it, they weren't eager to sign up for too many trips.

So? I've seen people make rafts out of a vw bus to float the 100 miles from cuba to florida. Didn't make it the perfect piece of equipment for it.

If they were better , they would RULE the markets that they compete in ! Half price , and worlds better , who in their right mind would not buy them?
How much down time does it add to grease a extra 6 grease fittings on the axle ? You are already there! The used market loves them because they are DIRT cheap! Not that they are better, if they were better , there would be value there.

You, because you like to buy trucks that look exactly the same as the ones they build 60 or even 70 years ago. The manufacturers know that, so that's what you can buy. Have you noticed that no one in the whole world (except US manufacturers in Australia) builds trucks the way you do? So lets turn your reasoning around, if the way you build trucks is so great, why is it that they are only build this way in NA?
