Those trailers have a big roller on the back. They back up to drilling rig parts and use the winch line from the truck to pull the pieces up onto the trailer.

If you look at the very front of the neck, you can see it tapers down like a ramp. For loading up tracked or wheeled machines, they'll adjust the neck so that the trailer is completely flat, then drop the trailer on the ground. Then they can drive whatever equipment needs hauling up onto to the trailer since the neck is laying on the ground. If the equipment is dead, they can back the truck up to the rear of the trailer and winch it on with the truck. All those trucks have low ramps at the back so to hook back up they just hook the winch line to the front of the trailer and winch it back onto the 5th wheel.

Where these trucks go would be like you going to the middle of Siberia to grab some equipment. They are on their own for loading. Versatility on what they Can haul. Road clearance.

Most likely time and versatility. The driver alone with that truck and trailer can load up a campshack or a piece of drilling rig in a matter of minutes (minus load securement of course).

This trailer is a bit different as its an extendable step deck but it loads up the same as the trailer in the first video.

The added benefit of the folding neck is to load equipment onto a low deck. I've never detached a neck before but it seems a lot easier to just pull away from the trailer, drive the equipment on and winch the trailer back onto the truck.

@NorthernMechanic You got any video of a folding neck trailer being dropped....

Also I've seen flatbeds with no landing gear or headboard doing the same thing....

    Can't find any video tho..
