Handled a gravel road well. Guess you did not notice the Oshkosh was right hand drive ... Selling them to one a right hand drive country.

here it show some bad points of its design, 3 rear axles are interesting for maneuverability and certainly nice piece of engineering, but with 3axles on one group you have very limited horizontal axle walk only about 10inch within 3 axles, that result one axle often in air- axle in air=no traction, and truck sit on one of axles more than it should-bring more drag, scania like suspension is pretty rigid, good for stability and durability -bad for traction,

trailer is awful so with real trailer there would be less drag

we need to consider that fv510 is only 25 , and bergepanzer 40t and those are not serious loads

it is interesting to read that is is capable of 71cm fording capacity , nothing special, military trucks here are 80 and optionally 120,

15% climbing with 236,600 lbs. (107320 kg), nothing special,

r730 8x8 starting with 120tonnes (264,554lbs) on 20% grade, considering that his is cheap/fuel efficient solution based on dry clutch transmission

anyway m1070 is interesting piece of engineering, same as m1000 quite advanced for its time

they are used by UK army, as well as other allies of USA, this are tenders and it is more about other things than trucks itself.

btw amoung 7 big european truck makers, iveco holds some 50% of market share in military applications , despite they are worst truck

You cant compare these two each have it plus and minus sides,

especially you cant compare it pulling different trailers, this 2axle british trailer is crap and reliable, bit it brings some drag on terrain slowing down oshkosh

    Pursy Thanks this.

A closer look on the M1070, don't know if it is the kind of tractor you would like to drive all day. This one still has a 2-stroke diesel.

If the job at hand requires it . Use a hammer to drive nails. Not a screwdriver .

Well, even back then when the Oshkosh was designed, the Germans had a very different idea about how to build such a tractor.

Meet the Faun SLT 50-3 Elefant, with a 1000HP Deutz V12 diesel engine:

Of course for really heavy transport (528 tons for instance) we have special vehicles adapted for European roads, like this one. It takes narrow corners with ease.
