Yes MAN F2000 series was sucess. I never liked Mercedes truck those were made upto SK Series before Actross. they were cheap fixes compare to Volvo, MAN, Scania.

Renault Trucks are also owned by Volvo, There biggest failure was Magnum.
Here I have seen some Renault medium duty COE sold under MACK brand. MACK trucks are also owned by Volvo.

The best thing, I like about American trucks is there 12Volt electrical system but wiring quality I would say Europeans are better. I am not sure EBS will improve things or will complicate them. standardising the disc brakes in NA will certainly improve things. Because I dont like the kind of improvised brake shoes used on American trucks.

You're better off with 24volt, less problems starting them and as for EBS and discs you need to watch this video, watch when the truck is loaded to 88,000lbs

hm, dont , mercedes trucks after sk are not something , first generation of actros was disaster , especially atego, and axor , however mercedes manage to fix those things and return reputation.

NG and SK are bulletproof , except SK use mercedes own gearboxes which were crap they last very short, and door liner was terrible, you have to fix it every week , both handles, lever, and lining itself , i have one from 1987 it is still good working hard every day , we overload it sometimes 40% , my father wants to keep it until his retirement , he bought first ng series in 1976 and he says he want to have if for 40years

today such truck value 2-3 times more than other brands
some of those trucks in better condition value more than first actros , arabs like them

but back in old days mercedes was too much conservative for example mercedes v10 engine use 20L/100km more than daf ati from same age

Are there any owner operators in Europe?

I don't hate European trucks. I've never devoted one minute to thinking about a European truck.

Oh yeah there is many o/o in Europe but not as many as there used to be, I was one for many years but it's just gone too hard to compete with the buying power of big companies, they can get much better rebates on fuel and shipping which they can get for about half price ( something you guys don't have to worry about too much) so they can run for cheaper rates.

Looks like Europe is going to relax their length limits to allow hooded trucks for safety and to try streamline trucks to save fuel, hopefully they go the whole hog to allow a proper conventional and a decent cab
