They drive in the wrong side of the road. That's why.

There, I said it, it's done!

Don't forget the 12.7 detroit and the 3406 cat. Heck even the n14 cummins is still readily available.

Trucks 40 years ago were 12 volt. They had 24 volt starters, and 4 6 volt batteries. 2 groups of 2 hooked up in series.

Mercedes own Freightliner and Detroit , Paccar owns DAF , guess that Cat block used in the max force 15(it's a C15 block) , those Germans have one heck of a drive each day. This part of the debate is silly. Alpo months ago , posted about this shining example of a EU truck , had a Cat engine . DD engines was a joint venture . The MX you could have kept. Some posted about moving a town touting X brand trucks, had Alision transmission in them. Driveline is basically the same. Just EU has V8 engines, we stopped using them years ago. And yes there is a reason. A V engine will not out last a inline . Just a side effect of the V design. Weight of the piston is resting on the rings. No way around that . EU uses them to reduce engine height. And yes my first truck I owned had a 903 ci V8 twin turbo no less . Did not leave the factory with twin turbo , or 675 hp . But that's what it ended up with. Not anti V8 , but they no long fit our needs. Cab overs no longer fit our needs except in some applications . And trying to force what you think on others is not a good trait .

I still think I'd be sketched out if I had to ride in or drive a COE in the woods. That solid engine block out in front makes a good buffer against trees.

Your right, sorta. The radio and lights were still 12v. Honestly don't remember about the other electronics such as the bower motor but most likely it was 12v as well. Sorry it's been like 20 years since i owned one that old. But not so sure about them using 6 volt batteries. Mine all had 2 separate banks of 12 volt batteries. Even my dozer just has 2 12 volt batteries. The 24 volt big battery cost too much when 2 12 volts run together has more than enough cranking power.

This is the problem here. These two just can't grasp yhe concept that we have different needs and what they use there doesn't fit our applications here.

Yes , just because some factory does not bolt something together like you want it , does not mean you can not get it. But Freightliner will bolt a pre emission C15 , 3406, N14 and a Detroit 12.7 or a 14L in a glider as it comes down the ### line . The gliders my last company made , were powered gliders. Engine and everything else bolted to it came with factory warranty . Can not get it complete , when they came in , we had to install the transmissions. But bolt holes are punched for that. Or you can go clean and get a CNG engine , or the dual fuel in a powered glider also.
