we have well described before that here 90% of transport is within 300 milles, and not too many drivers spend more than 5days in cab. that we have small cities, narrow mountine roads, small roundabouts... so it is really not possible to use larger trucks. also it is almost not possible to find driver that will be willing to waste his weeked away from home

we have agreed too that requirements are different in north america, you run for 3-4 weeks if no longer, you cross huge amount of milles, you have to cook in cab, bring more food (i guess you cant afford to eat in restaurants)

there is something we should note, as we have those length rules, our manufacturers learned how to use every space available, and if you see this cab interior in person you will change mind

same value for empty weight, US lower limit force you to learn better how to minimise dead weight of truck, we rather want robust things that last longer.

for example lightest 6x4 tractor , i can get is about 20900lbs, retarder, 530hp 150gallons of fuel, alcoa, fixed jost jsk37c, for narrow cab ( this is cab used for regional work and should not be used above 3 nights away),176k lbs rated, i guess similar spec in USA would be 15000

if i put largest cab, 16L engine remove retarder add some more fuel ....i would get to 23000 easy

Why do European's come off so smug ? Like stating as fact that this truck is 10 to 15 years advanced, US drivers can not afford to eat out, and VW is going to buy everything. Over looking the same companies design trucks in both markets. Just like I pointed out your new Benz sports a 10 year old Freightliner dash in it. I do not blame them , use something they own already .

It has nothing to do with technology. We can build and engineer anything they can. Its simply a matter of cultural differences. The market for what they produce is so small over here that its not even worth doing. From what I gather, anything that has a hood is "ancient technology" simply because it has a hood. While I can appreciate the trucks they build over there for what they are, I would still take a nice KW or Western Star given a choice.

    That's a day cab right ?
    European studio sleeper lol.

it is fact that this truck is more advanced than anything on US roads , dont know if there are still actros trucks on test, than might be quite close to scania.

few pages before "and refrigerator and freezer big enough to store two weeks worth of food plus two weeks supply of water."
that brings idea to me that it is too expensive, someone wrote few pages ( cant find it now) that he cooks by himself because of health and to save some money. here drivers dont bring lot of food, eating in restaurant is normal, on west it is more expensive. yeterday i have meet guy who says he never eat in cab and dont want fridge

vw already have scania man, buy some shares in navistar, there was scania truck in navistar at least 5-6years ago, now it is only question of time when VW will get into poor markets with its own vw constelation truck ( india china....), which is really wierd to me why they still did not make

vw already announced that scania will make big engines, big gearboxes, gas aftertreatment units, electronics, man will make small engines small gearboxes and small aftertreatment units and front axles.

same companies design them indeed, and i really wonder why there is no more common components
mb have different dash than freightlinner, dont even looks similar, you will only find same steering wheel as 2011 MB (fl also had before 2002 MB steering wheel) switches are same ( also 2002) gearbox stick is same as MB (2011), this MB is not new anymore and not far from being developed further.

i would agree on anything here, there is no market for this, market dont show interest, same companies could bring technology that already exists.

i dont find hood as ancient, but what is under except engine is ancient.

Do you think that Detroit, which is owned by Daimler, doesn't have the same technology here as Daimler in Europe does? Do you think that Volvo doesn't use the same engines here as they do there? Do you think that Cummins doesnt use modern technology in order to compete?

In truth though, if you answered "Maxx Force", you'd have a strong argument.

yes they have, in fact engine "weltmotor" was used in FL lot earlier than in MB (2011), same time as when fuso get it. it will be soon available world wide , i am not following steps of engines you get, here we have now third generation of engines since 10/2016

gearboxes are same, dont know for software we have 3rd generation of powershift, seems that volvo dont offer latest things there

but all other is way behind...

maxxforce is suppose to be engine that is worst than its origin....which was not famoust for good

    anyway kamaz with mb cab
