I drove the MB Actros and also the Volvo cabovers when I worked overseas. Small sleepers compared to what we have, but they pulled pretty good. But still cabovers. Companies found out in the 90s that most drivers did not want to be in a cabover and I doubt things have changed that much since.

this engine is from MAN actually, same as Maxxforce..... original MAN name was D2876, EU name for mbe4000 is om460 (but it was never used here), there was smaller version of it called om457, both of these engines were made for developing countries like brasil, turkey , china, russia.... they were available in europe but almost no used as did not suit european expectation

quite precise, in west europe they change them for about 4-5 years, here we keep them for up to 10years ( we are talking about long distance trucks), distribution trucks last about 15years. construction trucks up to 20years. my father run 30year old one, and refuse to change it for new despite he pay about 19k $ per year of tax because of it.

best balance between residual value of long distance truck, invested money for maintanance and repairs, money it earned is 7years.

middle east buy trucks 4 or more year old, below 4 years they pay huge import taxes, they can import trucks from 7-10year(depending on country) old anything above 10year means 30% lower price. thy end up here in jordan , whole city full of trucks and construction machines

anyway, i guess few months is really marginal and not too common, but from i have understand most drivers spend about 3-4weeks in cab?

how is possible to find driver that would spend so much time in cab away from home?
i understand country is big and running coast to coast require lot of time to cross 4800km in one direction, but i guess it would be easy possible to organise trips to get home every 10 days, or similar.

here drivers dont want to spend weekend in cab, if they are 6 days in cab , they become very angry on disponent, and this happens maybe once per month

many companies tailor their routes and loads to allow driver to sleep at home once during work days. companies would have loads to keep drivers in cab for longer like yours, but than nobody would drive for them.

some of our drivers went to work in west europe to drive , they spend 3 weeks there 1 here. they have apartment there to stay on weekends.

only ones that spend more than one week in cab are livestock drivers, usually two of them drive on 3 cards to asia from NL

We are a third world country now. No jobs no where to live etc. The guy who bought my old truck doesn't even have a house/apartment. He lives in the truck even when here in his home town ....

And big companies take advantage of this . Why organize the truck to be home every 7-10 days. When you can leave it anywhere USA and not pay the driver anything for camping out in it....

So they never own the truck outright?

No , unlike here the truck has to be owned by who ever has the authority to run it.

    Does that make sense...?
