So what do those new scanias do that i can't do with an old long hood 379, w900, classicxl, or western star, all capable of bolting on a 132 inch(or bigger) sleeper with full driver amenities such as running hot water, decent sized fridge, convection oven, toilet, etc. Please limit responses to how it practically applies to north American trucking.

Well, um, you see, it's like this.....

European trucks are built for Europe, and they work great there. Our trucks wouldn't work there.

At 0.29 it says it's a non EGR V8! Wow no EGR would get rid of so many problems. I like how this entire thread is basically arguing over axle placement. That's literally the difference. There are a lot of people who like cab overs in the states the old KW's and Pete's. Whats kind of ironic is that Paccar owns both of those brands and they are chassis wise all the same as our European brothers.

No, neither Peterbilt cabover nor Kenworth cabover chassis are essentially the same as European PACCAR trucks. Our transmissions are not synchro, while theirs are. Euro drive axles are different, and remember, the cabovers people are running here are at least 17 years old, and with many Kenworths, 30-40 years old

I was referring to DAF trucks, owned by paccar. Also I know Peterbilt and KW are not sold over there. You can now buy an entire Paccar driveline in a Pete or KW, axles, transmission, and engine. All closely engineered to those already in use across the pond. They are now more closely related than just sharing a parent company. I'm actually surprised there hasn't been a larger push for 57' vans here using cabovers.

KW has a offical dealership in France.

Paccar does not have a gearbox.

Parts have been and will be even more in the future shared between the 3 brands.

they both can do job, little bit different way but both can do, same as trucks 40years ago could....
scania xt is construction truck.... they are not long distance trucks, so its possibilities are closer to NA needs than our long distance trucks for NA conditions, ( most of scania trucks sold to USA were for vocational needs)

yes scania had bad experiences with EGR, so they decided to invest lot of money to get rid of it and problems it comes with egr. iveco also had engines without egr, but were using too much adblue (DEF). scania is also using more adblue than egr engines, about 8% of diesel consumption, adblue here cost about 1.15-1.2$/ gallon, if you buy on big , you can get it for 0.9. so it is not expensive if she use more of it. they have 33 gallon tanks.
scania use simple cheap turbo with fixed geometry, V8 have something we use on MB ( and you on DD) with fixed turbo and 2 part on other side. this turbo is twice cheaper than variable.

and different dashboard on 2008 FL and 2011 MB

not sure if chassis is same, daf developed new chassis on latest generation of trucks, there is lot more science in chassis than it looks on first, most people dont notice anything except cab...... one different crossmember change whole thing
