I'm going to be getting a Reitenour next week. Believe it or not, it probably has steel wheels.

Not rough, but if road is not straight rear axle would make some waves and transfer them to you.this happens on intersections of high speed road, in front of traffic light and downhill, road is damaged there by retarder and rear axle jump there

In Europe we use exhaust brakes and retarders/intarders for the same purpose. Europe is densely populated, with busy roads. Can you image what the reaction would be if trucks drive down a hill through a village with the Jake brake in action? I suppose the same as what happened some time ago in the US, when a local guy attacked a truck driver for making all that moise.

I'm not quite sure how you figured that out. The present MaxxForce engines are based on MAN engines, and VW is the parent company of MAN (and Scania). VW is slowly increasing its share in Navistar, and as other have stated, it wont be long until Navistar is VW's US truck subsidiary. VW is working on a completely new diesel engine for the US, so they said. Now, why would Daimler Benz build a copy of a MAN engine? The present range of Detroit Diesels are US versions of MB diesels.

Yes, that was also a funny discussion. Similar dashboards have been used for decades in EU trucks.

If they use it, then they have found a way not to make them as load as on US trucks.

That must have been a long time ago. I remember that at some time in the past MB and MAN cooperated a bit. MAN still has the D2876 for railway use etc. I suppose they are not clean enough for use in trucks.

That means that the MaxxForce engine and the MBE4000 are both 'children' of the D2876, correct?

I hope Mack won't mind if I point you to some US legislation. Look at the Mulford Act, also known as the "Panther's Bill", signed by Ronald Reagan in 1967 when he was governor of California.
