A lot of classic car guys trailer their cars to the show. Why risk driving it long distance ?

Disk brakes were invented before WWII, they were used on aircraft. Inventing is not the same as applying. The Europeans want to apply new technology, US truckers most of the time reject new technology. And yes, Paccar bought DAF for its engines, and set up an engine plant in the US where DAF engines are being produced, with the Paccar brand name on top.The new versions of the MX-11 and MX-13 engines are now being used in Europe, as far as I'm aware not yet in the US.

Absolutely, lousy engines. That's why DAF is the nr.1 tractor seller in Europe. European fleet owners just love it when their trucks break down thousands of miles from home. There have been several contributions in this thread from fleet owners an/or dealers who wrote that Cummins engines caused them more problems than MX engines. I'm not suggesting that Cummins engines are bad, because they're not. Most of the problems with the MX engines seem to originate from bad wiring, and that my friend is a US thing.

That is a matter of poor exhaust design. A friend of mine produces exhausts for passenger cars, trucks, and bigger engines, all custom made. He can give them almost any sound you like.

Yes, that is what I wrote. At the time the big European truck manufacturers didn't have trucks in that category. However there were other small European manufacturers that did produce similar vehicles, and many of them used more European components.

No, those trucks and trailers were also part of the exhibition. These companies are presenting themselves there for commercial reasons.

How big is big? Euro trucks at period of 1955/1965 were way smaller than today , plus we have to add ww2 sequence that people in other countries did not want german products including trucks, this is reason why scania did not bankrupt, they were saves by netherland.
Other trucks than german ones were unusable in construction segment, as germany needed a lot of reconstruction and expanding , thier trucks were more developed than other trucks, and this last till today. Before end of 1960s euro trucks were crap

Don't forget that Germany is and was the most important trading partner of the Netherlands. In the 1960's etc. there were plenty of German trucks in the Netherlands. Magirus for instance was very well known for its tippers, maybe half of the tippers in the Netherlands were made by them. Did you know that the famous VW Transporter was 'designed' by the Dutch VW importer Pon? He made a very crude sketch in a notebook, and showed it to the VW people. It resulted in the Transporter. That all happened in the 1950's.

There are just a few brands left in Europe, and two of them are German, and the Swedish Scania is also owned by a German company (VW) now.
