The manufacturers don't want old trucks on the road. They want to sell new ones with new technology, cleaner etc. So trucks don't last as long as they used to.
Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

And this is exactly why we don't want your trucks. My 17 year old truck is practically maintenance free and when something does need fix its cheap to get parts and just as importantly very easy to work on.
Take my drum brakes for example. A balanced steel drum cost 120 bucks. A pair of shoes with new springs and rollers cost 50. Can change them out in under an hour. I get almost 5 years out of shoes and 10 out of the drum. And everyone stocks them. Compare this to disc brakes. How long does it take to change them, what do the parts cost and are they stocked by every parts store including the smaller ones like a napa in a one horse town?
Oh and about big sleepers here. While they aren't standard equipment, they aren't some rare specialized custom job like you seem to think either. Heck i know personally 50 guys that have them. -
Oxbow, spyder7723 and Bean Jr. Thank this.
