it is true, however economics do different, they want profit and sonner or latter they will push whenever it is possible including on workforce. you can easly expect in next 10 years or so that you will import cheap labor from asia or something for low sallary simple jobs, and hard work jobs like construction logging, driving trucks....americans might work only on nicer work possition

it is not smartest to base whole city on one industry, failed on detroit....
here local truck industry dissapeared, whole city of 8000+ was made only for factory, in most cases both spouse worked in factory

not this kind of design, but structural design. FEM simulation, make mirracle on many cases people did not had full sight of what is happening in construction. but this is kind of boring, i found mechatronics much more fun and if i am not dealing with trucks i would certanly love to work in pharmacy plants. it is most difficult collage in country, and i was just average and quite far from any serious inventions. mechatronics consist partly from mech engineering so they take into account about 1/3 of all exams from my other degree. it took me together 11years for that....

here drums and brake lin, are little bit more expensive than disc and pads when you add springs it get more expensive, when you add slack adjuster and axle it get more expensive than clipers.
brake pads on disc can be changed faster but this part is not too common so makes no significant difference. about stock, they used to have only drums on stock once, and this changed over time, i am not sure that you would find drums easy in every shop without ordering.....all together disc is far more economic choice

which are standard dimmension of brakes in US, i have asked that twice earlier but did not get answer

here brake pads are 7.1x16,5inch on front and 8,7x16.5 on drive, trailers are 7.1x16.5 as well.
scania got largest brakes 8x16.5 on front, 10x16.5 on back. now for heavy tipper application they offer larger brakes

I will explain what I mean. When a drum brake is cold, the brake shoes fit exactly in the drum. The whole surface of the shoes touch the drum. Now when a drum heats up, it will expand (the diameter increases), as metal does when it gets hot. The shoes will not expand or not as much, so the hotter the drum gets, the less surface of the shoe will touch the drum. You loose braking power.

A disk is flat, no matter how hot the disk gets, the pads will always touch the disk with their full surface. The disk can get red hot, and perhaps the pads may burn, but you will always have maximum braking capacity.

How many Americans would buy a euro truck to run here?
    Few if any
Now how many euro drivers would love to have a real truck , a long classic Pete or kenworth , I'll bet without all your nanny state regs the number would be high . Now if we could only adopt your stupid nanny state rules everyone would drive trucks they don't want .
You call that progress I call it out of control regulation
    now you enjoy that lol
But wait you have no choice , that's reality
your choices suck because you have no freedom to decide for yourselves

yes for shows, trucks are used only for shows and promotion trucks, in real world they are unusable . 3.5milles from my home there is company who deals with chemicals, transport new ones, and waste managment for dangerous goods. they had western star 4942FX chassis number ,2WLPBDCK2WK948868, it is large sleeper 4x2 tractor 550hp i think 1998 , they were pulling short tank semitrailer, wheelbase short as possible ( 5ft wheel almost above drive axle) swing radius of trailer is very tight, not for normal trailers), driver told me it is really hard to get into places and it is uncomfortable ride....it was sold latter to german amusement/circus , and still can be seen here.

    production

    germany

    here

    again germany
