I still think it could use a bit of refinement though. If they matched up the lines on the upper and lower grills, put dual stacks on it, bullet lights and air horns on the roof I think it'd look sick.

No, there was never any talk about these things. And what's more, it is not a problem. It means you can even shorten the tractor more (not advisable), or make a bigger standard cab. In Canada they experimented with EU tractors, and they like them (the drivers as well). The only problem is that the Canadian law says that you can only import a truck with a DOT registration.

I have no idea, I think they use them on oil fields etc. I'm sure they can take a huge load.

It looks like the old ford cabover I drove ld one of those 9000 fords , you had to be part chimp to climb into that monster , then a side wind should tilt the cab like you could have had a v8 , I'm sure it's far better but you got to wonder what all that extra stuff would cost .
Speaking of cost . What does one of the new euro cabovers cost ?
I've looked for prices and can't find them?

Your still not taking into account inner bridge laws , I used to run into weight restrictions pulling a container with a cabover about the same length as yours

I can appreciate that and see the appeal. Would look perfect if the roof height was chopped down 12-18 inches though.

Well, here in the states a tandem rear is usually rated for between 40 and 46,000 lbs. Not sure about a tandem steer though...
