I'm sure they use it daily, but they don't use that 700HP all of the time, more likely just a fraction of it. That MAN V12 can run full power all of the time, and it will last. All those tuned engines don't last, and certainly not if they are used at the maximum power.

Many European truck manufacturers have a racing team, or support one. They use 13 litre engines, that often have some 1500HP. And by the way, no big clouds of black smoke!!

That pickup is parked in the parking lot every day I'm at work. He does tow his 14k lb travel trailer long distance a few times a year. You're right it probably doesn't use 100% power all the time but it puts it out when it needs it.

Mine has 574,xxx miles and almost 20,000 hours........anytime I need it I use it.I rarely get beat up a Hill.....anyone can go fast on the flats. But hills separate the real engines from the wannabes.....

That ÖAF truck can pull a little bit more, 550k lb. , and with just 300HP more. Usually at least 600 of those 700HP are asleep.

Yes, for a minute or so.

Yes, I suppose that is why Volvo and Scania have 700+ HP engines. Pulling 60 tonne trucks through the mountains of Sweden takes some power.

That makes no problem on them they are well built, 730 cost 14000 usd more than 580, they are quite different in materials used. Dont know for volvo. You can find many 580 tuned to 700+used in norway 110k with 1.2-1.3mil km on clock. Norway have terrible roads worst in europe, too big country makes no sense to build roads...often single lane in both directions....

but doing heavy haulage is different.
I find most problematic thing on scania expensive variable turbo.

My father have 30year old truck engine never opened except valve adjust, it smoke little bit when and would need injectors rebuild soon. It is used in city only.

My friend drive mb truck from 1979 that is driving daily. He also have 1975 magirus. He get those two from his grandfather who died recently he was 85year old and by my knowelage oldest active driver in country. Except those two he own 5 new trucks

No it was last year , was that Mammoth , or something like that. Had a CAT engine and one of our transmissions. Looked like a train. Was his shining example of Euro design ?

image.jpg 2400 minus 1500 = 900 . Send your race team back to the drawing board.
