DAF was not hurting financially. In 1995 they had a turn over of 1.5 billion guilders, and a profit of 164 million guilders. However the previous company went bankrupt in 1993, and a new company was founded with the Dutch state (39%) and the Belgian state (10%) as important shareholders. Other shareholders were banks, pension funds and the Van Doorne family. At the time PACCAR didn't have it's own engines, and DAF engines had and have a very good reputation. So DAF got more financial resources, and PACCAR got engines.

    I dont see problem there.
I see problem when they get into fin. problems and managment dont know how to fix its mistake and start to cut on things thst should be kept on level. Like quality and future development. Great product may lead you into fin problems. Just remember w123 they were too good and dont need any parts that lead mb into problems during 80s.

As for lost truck brands ,i really regret styer great trucks, here many proud owners refuse to changevth them for anything else despite parts problem....but you cant stop globalisation....

So 2 years after bankruptcy all is good ...... according to the guilders ratings

Guess you can turn a profit fast with the backing of the government...

You know that Paccar paid zero United States income tax in 2008-2010

“Paccar had an effective U.S. tax rate over the 2008-10 period of -30.5 percent, the third-lowest among the 280 companies studied, according to a report by the advocacy group Citizens for Tax Justice and the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy.”

Few big companies pay anything close to 35 percent federal tax rate

That's not quite what happened. When the old company went bankrupt, the factories etc. were assets that had to be sold by the receiver. A new company was set up with enough money to buy those assets, and 39% of the shares of that company were bought by the government for 147 million guilders. When the government sold the shares to Paccar, they got 351 million guikders, so the government made a nice profit. The value of the company had doubled in two years.

Of course the government made far more money out of this, 5000 people stayed at work, VAT revenues, plus other taxes.

In other words, Spyder7723 would have been right if PACCAR had bought DAF in 1993 just after they went bankrupt. In 1996 however there was a new and healthy company.

By the way, PACCAR also got their own axles after they bought DAF. It's no coincidence that DAF and PACCAR US both have new axles since this summer.

Autocars too became victims of that hideous body style as White had.

I propose a new thread rule
For every hideous euro cabover at least one sweet US classic should be posted
That auto car makes up for the butt ugly cabover , carry on

Great video , of way if they were free most US companies would not use them. Twice the number of steps, twice the chance to slip and fall. And climb like that to clean the windshield .
