It just shows that the limits for CO-emissions have not changed since 1985. This CO-limit is pretty irrelevant anyway for a (modern) diesel engine, because the true CO-emissions out of the exhaust are generally well below 10% of this limit.

NOx and PM limits have come down a lot over the years, and that is why we now have EGR/DOC/DPF/SCR(DEF).
Current NOx limit is a bit lower in North America, compared to europe, and was introduced earlier.

The emissions measured during certification of engines can be downloaded from EPA website.

Annual Certification Data for Engines and Equipment | US EPA

    https://www.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2017-01/hdh-cert-ghg-2017.xls

(For those who are interested) very usefull for comparing worldwide emission standards and test procedures is the Delphi pocket book:

Wow, even reading tables seems to be difficult.

The amount of carbon monoxide in US emissions is indeed extremely high, 15.5 g/bhp.hr. In Europe it is 1.5 g/kWh, or 1.11 g/bhp.hr. That is almost 14 times stricter.

When you look at the hydrocarbon emissions in the US, the value dropped from 1.3 g/bhp.hr to 0.14 g/bhp.hr, so by almost 90%. In Europe it is 0.13 g/kWh, or 0.09 g/bhp.hr.

The nitric oxides in the US dropped from 4 to 0.02 g/bhp.hr, that is a 95% drop. In Europe it is 0.40 g/kWh, or 0.29 g/bhp.hr.

The particle matter emissions dropped from 0.10 to 0.01 g/bhp.hr, also by 90%. In Europe the value is 0.01 g/kWh, or 0.007g/bhp.hr.

The number of particles is only defined in Europe, as 800,000,000,000 per kWh.

I have no idea why the carbon monoxide in the US is allowed to be so high. Anyway, the other emissions are really dangerous, and the allowed emissions of those have dropped dramatically.

And now please explain to me how you came to the conclusions that the EU standards are lower.

    just an example DD S60 12.7 1998 and DD13 2017:
1998 S60 certification numbers (the bottom one is a non-road engine)

2017 DD13 steady state results (1998 testing was steady state only, 2017 steady state and transient, but I just used the steady state numbers for the comparison)

Yes reading tables is hard. Math is even harder. Europe math: .4 is less than 02.

So a 98 series 60 is pretty darn clean. Obviously not as clean as a 2015 emissions engine, but not the planet killing thing the environmental nazis claim they are.

And that is the only thing where the European value is higher, all other values are lower in Europe, or didn't you notice?

That has got to be the most hideous truck I've ever seen. Some people have no taste.

Just borrowing a page from your book and focusing on one detail to spin things in the most favorable way.
