Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

For most trucks Euro5 was SCR/DEF only, with a few exceptions like Scania or MAN having EGR, without SCR/DEF on some models.
Even now euro-2 and euro-3 trucks are still being produced in large numbers for markets like africa. Same or worse emission level than the 98-02 North American (pre-emission) engines.Last edited: Nov 10, 2017

The turbocharged, dual injection technology (combined port- and direct injection) Ecoboosts, the dual-injection 5.0.
The dual injection is still very uncommon in europe, if available at all. Toyota uses it, but not for european market.
Volvo recently announced their new 13 liter LNG truck engine. Developped with canadian technology.Oxbow and spyder7723 Thank this. -

We use the bigger trucks once the load gets heavy... Not yet.

But, thank you for illustrating my point.
Let's see. We haven't done much in automotive. Which is a legacy industry without much innovation, and even developing nations are putting out competitive cars. Heck, even the French are making some cars that last more than a few years.
Now, instead, we spent some effort on other things. Space, for example. The Euro's are still plodding along in a malarial swamp in Guyana shooting rockets into space, occasionally, that were designed when Moses was a small boy. We're shooting them into space several a month, landing the boosters, reuse them, and do the whole thing for 20% of the costs.
We've been kinda busy looking forward to new things, not fighting over old, established stagnant technology. Things like GPS, the internet. Software like Facebook, Google, inventing things like smartphones. Electric cars that actually work. Re-inventing retail through things like Amazon. Reinventing transportation through things like Uber and Lyft.
We've been kinda busy making a boat load of money on new things, too busy to worry too much about low or no-margin industries like automotive and steel much. -
