I get what you mean, BUT these emergency braking systems are there for those situations where the driver is not alert enough, doesn't react on time. These systems react in milliseconds, apply maximum braking force etc. No human can improve on that. Many trucks have adaptive cruise control these days, perhaps all new trucks. With those you will always have the proper distance to the truck/car in front of you.

guess that your solution is much much more better for kids.

it is in norway, i have talked with one bus driver who drive such route, he thinks this is school line however they ride regular people inside too.

we can switch it off but it takes time and it will be on next time you run engine. you have to go in menu and dig inside.
europe have 2 stage of this requiered systems i dont know them word to word, but they dont require to stop vehicle to standstill but just decrease of 20kmh to alert you, however most manufacturers, inmediatly put best version.

That is the normal situation. Bus and train schedules take in account when children have to be at school. Over here many children use a bicycle to go to school as well. Even the royal princesses use a bicycle to go to school.

only serious safety problem electronics cant control is retarder. it is very powerful comparing to jake brake. short wheelbase, one axle might be problem. especially in situation where road is damaged by retarder.

here people use retarder for braking not just for holding speed as jake brake as it is far more powerful.
so in places where you need to brake someone already braked and again and again so road might be damaged there and when it is wet and you are approaching with high speed, if this is corner and tilted on side and downhill it will lose contact for sure. no electronics can fix that, retarder have delay and ebs cant switch it off so fast(hard to squeeze oil out so fast), ebs will try to brake trailer to straighten it but in many cases it wont be enough

with abs no, except driving on sand at very low speeds downhill. but people usually connect abs to traction control and this is what you want to disengage sometimes. altrough i find latest systems good enough. tried it last winter on our parking, it was snow and snow melted and during night frozen again created thin layer of ice that looks like glass hard to walk on it, tractors were parked on stock without any fuel so maybe 2300kg of total 7700kg on drive axle and highway tires with lowest possible rolling drag. moved without much problems with TC on

here in my place kids that have over 3km to school have organized transport, up to 3km depends on you, you can walk, someone can drive you or whatever, in suburban are like mine you have normal low floor articulated city bus that goes every 12minutes. i have house 150m to elementary school for about 1300-1400 kids, until some 15years ago it was shame if someone drive kid to school, other kids would beat him and call him girl or something. today you cant see too much children walking to school..... :(
