In Europe we do have a somewhat similar system:
-
Almost all class 8 trucks are delivered like this ....
Unless you have 13’4” sleeper height. Then they just do 2 one pulls the second one that’s turned backwards with drive wheels a couple of inches off the ground.KVB Thanks this. -
A pic of what Cat was talking about. Anyone have a pic of the new lopro piggyback setup ? That lifts the steer axle.
KVB Thanks this. -
.......and that, boys and girls, is how class 7 trucks are made
Oxbow Thanks this. -
Thank you, but it still doesn't explain how do they connect the brake lines, how does ABS work in such a set up, and looking at that Volvo, there seem to be brake lights in the front bumper?!?
-
The lights.
They run a cable from the lead truck just like with a trailer.
Only difference is that the cable and lights are not "fixed permanently".
Brakes.
I do not know.Cat sdp Thanks this. -
Yes, they attached a fake bumper with rear lights on that Volvo:
That would be the most challenging problem! -
As for brakes it is same on tow trucks that pull other truck except i am not sure if this connection between towed truck and fifth wheel is equally strong.
I have seen some photo and it looks rather fragileKVB Thanks this. -
They run temporary air and electric lines back thru the stack....... like a tow truck would .....
Light bar on the Volvo is the same temp lights on a bar bungee corded on the bumper..... same as tie truck.....KVB and daf105paccar Thank this.
