Come to western Oklahoma sometime. Maybe Kit Carson or say Limon or something of that nature. The land just goes forever.

True, this winter was an exception. We also have winters almost without snow.

I know, you have more snow than we have.

i can see lot of 4axle trucks, here almost no in use , simply not suitable for that.
i have seen in switzerland 5axle scania for highway cleaning.

we use here 4x4 and 6x6 trucks for winterservice. 6x4 can be also usable for lighter duty in continental part of country.... some even use 4x4 trucks with single terrain tires 14.00r20 or 395/85r20 for more serious tasks.

btw what is equipment price for winterservice equipment in USA?

here 2-circle hydraulics, lights, control panels, front attachment plate cost from 5700€ from cheap manufacturers while good ones can cost anything from 12-15000€.
10.5ft snowplow cost from 5500€ from cheap suppliers to 16000€ for good ones.
saltspreader and liquid spread. for 2axle truck can cost anything from 18000€ from cheap suppliers to 30000€ for good ones.
good ones mean high middle class, if you want to buy something exotic you will pay way more

Yes, indeed there are many 4 axle 8x8 trucks, those are almost our standard tippers. There are also 6x6 trucks, and perhaps some 10x8 trucks as well.
    What's wrong with 8x8 trucks?

too long bad turning circle, front axles slide.

8x8 is bad itself, too much to go wrong

    big truck magazine says:

In our now traditional annual tipper test, this time we test 8x8 trucks. These heavy work horses have a specific, loyal customer group and although the market is small, no fewer than seven brands are active in this segment. With our six participants, in this test we offer the market’s current overview.

Yes, of course the market is relatively small. Far more tractors then tippers are sold. In the test you will see two Mercedes trucks, a standard 37 tonne truck, and a modified 46 tonne truck. The front axles are modified, and the rear axle is made steerable and placed wider apart. The Ginaf is also a completely purpose build truck with DAF components on its own chassis. Merceds and MAN are building 10x8 tippers for the Dutch market.

A relatively small market, but important enough for all these special constructions.

if i understand good what they wanted to say that 8x8 market is low....
more drive axles you add more expenses you will have.

when it gets in years 6x6 truck cost maintain twice as 6x4 , 8x6 is still acceptable 8x8 is bottomless hole.
here rule says if it is that (requires 8x8) rough (job) than it is better to not do it.

i think front axles are not modified, just placed wider, but i still dont understand how RDW can allow 11.5t axle weight on axle that is designed for 9t that is 28%

I have a video somewhere of two 8x8's in the UK toting a heavy haul, over size etc. What we would call a superload here in the USA through a town intersection etc. They did well. Here in America we use about 4 or 5 tractors in pulling or pushing breaking driveshafts as we go along now and then. Two of those probably could do the job provided they can generate the juice to large enough traction motors.
