Well, I think that just from the fact that there is a yearly 8x8 tipper test, you can deduct how important these trucks are. There's no test of 6x4 or 6x6 trucks. For all major road construction and other civil engineering work, 8x8 or 10x8 or even 10x10 trucks are used.
I don't know what they did with the front axles, but it was specifically stated that the axles were modified. 4 x 11.5 =46 tonne, so every axle is a 11.5 tonne axle.

Somehow I think the Tatra is the more elegant design. Of course it can carry a bit more load as well, 132,000 lbs vs. 80,000 lbs for the Peterbilt, and on 2 axles less!!
