Ok I will agree with you on this. I've never liked lift axles. Look really goofy.

What do you mean with "off-road only"? That Tatra truck has license plates, it is road legal. Ginaf also builds 60 tonne trucks, they are road legal with a 50 tonne maximum weight, but off-road you can use them with 60 tonne.

There are even bigger dumper trucks than that Caterpillar, but these huge trucks are only suitable in very specific circumstances.

This is a video about the smaller mining trucks:

for sand and terrain you have there is need for many drive axles big tires etc but still should be avoided as much as possible.

you cant do much to axle, this is why i say rdw is very liberal.

our local motor vehicle center will not allow any modification out factory, also not use of tires that are not authorised by manufacturer. have now guy who wants to fit 315/45r22.5 tires on 8x4 not possible.

big dumpers are dying slowly in favor of largest version of regular trucks

those axles are best proof how pointless is bridge law

I doubt it. Not cost effective to run smaller trucks in an open pit mine. It'd take a minimum of 4-6 smaller trucks to haul the payload of 1 Ultra Class haul truck. Then add in time wasted while loading 4-6x the current number of trucks. A P&H 4100 BOSS shovel can load a 797 or T282 in 4 passes. Its just not going to happen out here.

They just look really silly. I mean there's a tandem truck with 3 lift axles. We can run a tridrive with a heavy steer axle and gross just over 67,000lbs. Just makes more sense since there are no self steering lift axles to scuff the tires up on, no need for all the upkeep on all the extra wearable parts like tie rods, kingpins and brakes.

The size of the mine trucks now is limited by the tires. Cannot make tires yet to handle more weight.

Sadly, most people today have no idea what that name means or what it is in reference to.
