That's neat. I've never seen the wing plows mounted up front like that. Only ever seen them mounted to the frame in front of the drive axles.

@98989 I remember you saying you use tractors for snow removal because they aren't regulated under hours of service. I've never seen tractors used for snow plowing but we do use graders. Probably for the same reasons.

I thought this was pretty neat. Never seen one in action as the roads they use them on are a lot further south/south east than I typically travel.

We have some snow plow trucks that are equipped with a GPS laser pointer that shines a dot where the edge of the road is. It's pretty cool to see when you pass them at night.

another place where cabover would be better, this truck have 180 inch wb, in europe you can get it starting from 130inch. but it does not matter guess that nobody needs so short.
with cabover you can move tipper body closer to front axle and gain more payload on same chassis. outside of winter season this truck cant load much.

here most of winterservice trucks are 4x4. very similar as this scania except not so ugly tipper.
6x4 is used for longer stretch of road and 6x6 for very difficult conditions in mountains, and for highway with side plow

public company from capital city own over 80% of 4x4 trucks in fleet as large ones cant go in narrow and steep places, for most difficult things they use unimogs of course.

it is interesting that truck from cat sdp post is actually not that small as it looks on first sight, dd13 engine, 9t front axle 11.5t rear axle, but since it is conventional its full capacity is wasted due hood

talking about GPS, how far goes electronics in your part of world in such trucks?
here we are talking about net of sensors on road, sensors on truck that measure temp at road and according to this adjust amount of salt that is spread. this shows up in map at winterservice station so they can look at real time temp. condition on road and compare values, those datas are stored for future and thereby can help to adjust salt spread in future.

it is whole science, i work with guy who brings this into use. he was driving for 2 months on road measuring temps, he says that in just 1/20 of mille you can find difference of 5 F. they have developed whole system.

yes but it is not too big quantity, but number is increasing in recent time. however be aware of very limited amount of salt they can take.
they are mostly used by small municipals, villages etc they use it because they have it, so why not to buy winter equipment for it and use it all year

...and use them because there is no regulation in hours, there are some stories new law is being prepared for all winterservice drivers to being able to drive more. my brother is working right now from 6pm to 6am in morning. police dont make them trouble.

I do not know the extent of technology. I do know that our state pre treats bare highways with salt brine or calcium chloride prior to storms.
