is there any snowplow driver here watching topic?

i see that your winterservice trucks have wide tires 425 or even 445.
i'am wondering how does this drive on snow/ice?

here we have to put tire that equals loading capacity of axle rated weight of course.
so 17.6k is with 315/80 R22.5, 19.8k with 385/65 R22.5, 22K also goes on 385/65 R22.5 but quite limited choice of tires load rating 164. I can get even 23.15k on 385/65r22.5 for winter service.

however most drivers(incl. my brother) prefers 315/80R22.5 on front despite how much overload they have on tires. they say it turns better in city, slide less, and dont make cab dirty

Once the traffic is going, the road may be kept clean by that traffic. However, after a night of snow, the roads have to be cleaned before the traffic can flow. So the snow ploughs work all night.....

It is both of course, but when the highways are covered with snow or ice, the cars will drive very slowly, there's hardly any danger. There are far more accidents at secondary roads with less traffic.

Interesting, well it is a way to use the truck if they can't use the concrete pump because of the weather.

In the states around me you need the bigger front tires to get the overweight permits .... not sure how they handle in the snow tho.

Stop and think about it , the steer axle only has the contact patch of the two steer tires to not push sideways . The Towplow is running eight tires , things being equal it should be very stable.

Don't you know it's just so much better and superior to overengineer, complicate and make everything expensive? I'm in China right now on vacation for a few weeks and will be looking for some truck pics to post here.

You really don't need some huge fuel guzzling mastodon to get 4x4 drive, you can also get a Fiat Panda Cross with a two cylinder 0.9 litre engine. It's even remarkable off-road capable:
