According to European rules, this rig can have a maximum weight of 40,000kg (88,000 lbs). The maximum length of the rig can be 16.5m (54 feet). There is no specific rule on the maximum length of the trailer, but by combining other rules the maximum theoretical length is 13.6m (44.6 feet).

The maximum weight on the front axle of the truck is 10,000kg, the maximum weight on the rear (=drive) axle is 11,500kg, the total maximum weight on both axles combined is 18,000kg, the maximum weight on the three axles of the trailer is 21,000kg or 24,000kg, depending on the question if distance between the axles is less than 1,30m, or between 1,30m and 1,40m.

Western Canada is 21-24,000 KG on a tridem as well, depending in spacing. It's all about the Tri Drive out here for trucks that stay west.

Lots of traction with 6 wheels driving. They go very well in a straight line. Turning in less than ideal conditions- not so much

You mean a 6x6 tractor? You can get them here of course, but 6x2 tractors with the first of the two rear axles steerable (two wheels on that axle, not four) are quite popular because of the manoeuvrability.

And this is how the trucks looks over here now. 76ton (167555lbs) on 9 axels. Truck has to be tandem drive. Still the same length 25m. If you ask me it was a stupid idea to raise the max gross weight from 60t to 76t. 60 was more than enough and after just a year with these new weights it already shows on the road wear

To put it in perspective the weight is more than what 2 fully loaded US trucks gross. They only reach 72ton.

    Ceasar is wrong,in EU a tridem on a trailer gets 27 metric tons.(59 525lbs)

But expaining EU weightlaws would need a thread off it's own.
    It's a mess.:biggrin_25524:

In South Africa there is a Bridge law that is very simple.
Distance between any 2 axles in m x 2,1 plus 18 = max weight in ton over that liniar distance.
