but as an alternative you can still chose small hub reduction axles , they are just little bit heavier than hypoid diffs, at scania 60kg,man 100kg dont know for other manufacturersa gives, 30% more capacity on road and good for lighter offroad tasks
Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

I know does mack still use tbem, scania offered mack axles with it until late 60s

Get a bit ambitious with a pressure washer on a modern truck and see what happens. -
I repared so many ECUs after water damage) so I like new trucks
-
the craziest tandem design was on classical KRAZ - two parallel drive shafts for every drive axle and T-case with reduction (in low range).

Yes u r right, Ignorance is the most probable reason, why many Americans are still sticking to their Cowboy rigs. Other reason is Goverment policies and dirty politics and consequences are many American companies are owned by Europeans or are dependant on Euro firms for technology needs. Things are changing in America and eventually they will come back to COE or something similar or near. Slowly they will learn to appreciate good things as they will be exposed to better technologies.

What most seem to not know is that the COE will die too in the EU.
There is movement in the EU parlement to make a law whereby the EU-COE will in fact become a short hood.
What most likely will happen is that the next generation off cabs being designed will be no longer flat.
They wanted that by 2020 but the truckbuilders have been able to delay it as they had to invest in cabs to accomodate the EURO 6 engines.
Those started selling this year which would have given them only 6y to get a return on the money spend.
That is too short a period so the law will come in around 2022-2024.
Then you will see a bonanza off BIG changes.
And at that point ,it would not surprise me if all truckbuilders go to the same "platform" for both EU and N A (USA+Canada) trucks.
Basicly all aero long and/or short hoods. -
The question is how these new 'hoods' will look like. These new trucks will certainly not look anything like the baroque cathedrals you see in NA, after all the new designs will centre around aerodynamics. A modern European COE truck can be more aerodynamic as the most streamlined NA truck. The new hoods will be short, as short as possible. It is my guess they will be used to house the cooling system of the engine, after all the radiator is the most problematic part of a modern truck with regard to aerodynamics. I think the new trucks will look like modern trains, basically a COE truck with an aerodynamic nose in front of the cabin.

Ceasar, there is allready a short hood freightliner with a doghouse in the cab.
So engine is partly in the cab.
It will depend on how much extra lenght will be given in the planned new laws.
I'm shure the truckbuilders allready know as they need many years to plan for the new cabs.
