I dont know why i didn't ask this in school but am i missing something. I know like 5 guys in school that let their cdl go by not renewing it and had to take 160 hour course because of that but when you get your new cdl its like your regular driving license and commercial driving license in one so how could you forget to renew it ?? In WA you have to renew it every 5 years? I just don't get it

They wised up and got a real job instead of sitting around in docks for free all day.

Ticket in a four wheeler is at the cdl rate. License plate light out....oh well well well a cdl....chaching.

Some get tired of the bs while others loss track of time and with the new rule about physicals being tied directly to the cdl, it is more of a pain to make sure it doesn't lapse. Here inMichigan I would have to go through the written and road test as if I was getting it for the first time if it lapses I can't put a hold on it.

Years ago, I let my CDL last because I was in a job where I didn't need it and just didn't want to pay all the extra to renew everything. However, I did renew my regular drivers license. You can drop your CDL and still keep your regular license. However, I later regretted doing that because I did have to go through the whole routine when I decided to get it back.

pretty simple, they weren't driving a truck at the time and didn't think they would again.

when i was a drinker i didn't want the more restrictive limits for a CDL holder. Of course it was no accident I ended in AA
    both DUI's were over .2

no sir, not true. there IS a box at the bottom of the ticket, that specifically asks the officer, "CDL Vehicle, yes or no".....

i know this, as many years ago i got a speeding ticket in my car (just bought it days earlier, and i just had to test the gas pedal)...not a CDL infraction to be driving a non-CDL vehicle.

    maybe in YOUR state perhaps......????

but i highly doubt it is all across the 50 US states to be true.

this is most certainly true of "some states". i think Ohio, one can put a hold on the CDL. my state, if my med expires, they go by what the Feds have in the book, that all we have to do is get a new medical and bring it to them (DMV) to bring back the CDL to valid, but we never lose the CDL if the med expires, it is just down graded to an operators license. which means we cannot legally drive ANY CDL vehicle.

each state can follow the Fed's minimum, or make it a horrendous adventure in getting it back.....

    Mr.X Thanks this.
