I know this may come as a shocker but not everyone uses GPS and everyone is not on elogs. Some may drive till tired and rest area ahead may be just the spot to pull in and sleep for a few.
Last minute H.O.S. Oh my I have to stop! lol -
You want middle of nowhere, I-10 between San Antonio and the I-20 junction. Nearly 400 miles and maybe 6 true truckstops? The Circle Bar in Ozona, TX is truly in the middle of nowhere, lol!

I just drop my trailer in the trailer parking area and back my tractor in the heated shop and the next morning it's all nice and warm and ready to go.
Life is good in a day cab running local. -
Luckily we can park at many of our shippers and receivers when we can make the run work out that way on time. -
There are usually places, be it rest area or truck stop or even the deserted site of a traveling pavement plant or a vacant or underused warehouse facility.
Start at 10pm to 1 in the morning and you will have plenty of places when you need to stop and not have to be creative. You will generally see the ones on e-logs parked where they had to get creative, and they are still sitting there when the place is mostly empty. That 1 space you found was probably from someone who drives starting late night to early morning.
You can park at Minooka, IL at the Pilot at the right time of day, but after 2 to 3 pm during the week, good luck with that and I wouldn't even go into the one at Monee, IL to buy coffee unless it was very early morning. I'm mostly in IL or WI, or even IA or MN, when I need to stop so I'm familiar with the area. You also learn which to avoid earlier in the evening running a limited area. Big cities are usually harder to find regular parking because of the amount of trucks in the area.
Timing is the big thing, most anywhere. The only time I have trouble finding a place to park is when I have to run during the day and into the night. Driving on Friday or Saturday is usually less hassle in finding places.
Rest areas are being built better, the ones to avoid are the parallel parking ones with parking on both sides of the road through, watch for anyone moving before trying to leave.
Heavily traveled roads tend to have more traffic through rest areas and truck stops.NewNashGuy Thanks this. -
It would be nice if they would do that, however, in the trucking industry we have people that like to throw trash and piss bottles on the ground becasue they dont want them in their truck or they dont want to throw them away at the next stop. People like this make it so you cant park on some of the ramps and you get run out of the industrial areas at night. Sad but true....Trucking industry as a whole does not have any professionalism. Go stand in the truckstop and see what I mean, watch the guy come with his gut hanging out the bottom of his shirt so much that you need a wheelbarrow to carry it around. We need more professionalism and that starts with cleaning ourselves up wearing some decent attire and cleaning out trucks and the surrounding areas. (i.e. truckstops, rest areas)drvrtech77 and Milr72 Thank this.
