Why do some cars follow you?

Sometimes at like 3am in the morning I'll see a car racing up behind me and when the car gets close they slow down and will sit behind me for 40-50 miles. I've had cars follow me for 100+ miles before when there is no other cars on the interstate at night. Any reasons for this? I still can't figure out why a car would want to sit behind an 18 wheeler, knowing one of the tires can blow out at any time....

Then they can text, watch movies and generally not pay much attention to actually driving.
You can really mess with them. Change lanes at random times. Slow down then speed up. Take an exit and get back on. Fun stuff.

I have had this happen many times. I used to just slow down until they either go around or I get angry enough to pull over. I seen drivers talk over the CB and have another driver to come up behind said car and spotlight them. It don't take long to get one off you.

It's all fun and games until you blow a trailer tire if they're right on your bumper. At 3 a.m. there's a good chance that they're drunk and they just follow whatever lights are in front of them.

Reminds me of the time were there was a dozen trucks that had had a good looking blonde in a 4 wheeler boxed in for nearly 20 miles so we can all take turns and take a look. The stupid crap you do while bored. lol

4 Wheelers used to do this back in the Day when Drivers were respected and the 4's thought the Truckers knew where the Bears were hiding

I've had the fuel savers ride behind me. Can't like it. I slow down until they go around. One dude was so determined to stay behind me, he started following me into a POE at the Utah / Arizona border I-15 southbound.

Same stretch of highway, I was down to 40 mph once, dude still stayed back there until I started to stop in the e lane, then he split.

    I do not allow that.

Consider my load of McKesson Narcotics in that trailer, maybe 4 pallets of demerol, other drugs and cancer chemo stuff which is seriously expensive. I have to demonstrate prey behavior. No one gets to ride along behind me for any amount of time if I can help it. If they prove to be stubborn, I'll have either the state bear, marshal etc come out intercept and round em up off me. If in convoy with another driver or three and we are sort of a good team I'll set it up where that pesky follower gets scraped off me. It will be a serious game of inches.

If it really gets weird back there I'll introduce the drunken driver routine followed by a sleepy drift routine. Then bounce back into my right lane revealing to the follower a bridge pillar ahead. They have two simple choices to make.

That does not bother me so much these days. It's what is going on in front that is a real problem (Insurace scams etc)

In the spring of about 1988 I had a undercover bear hammer his green two door mustang to a dead stop on the side at I-83 southbound at a place called "Summit" which in those days was a pretty narrow pull in PA.

This person hopped out raising a enormous weapon to his shoulder. Essentially a bazooka. I had a military load on my container and am aint gonna be killed for it. I shook the steering wheel down and then aimed for him and his drivers door. Just as I lined up the right steer and applied power to the floor I saw a little bitty cord winding back into his car.

It's a freaking radar gun. What a dumb ###. I hope he got a face eye full of those double nickels back then. I had committed that semi to a hit and it took some work to get it off him.

I can tell you this. This was the very very very last time I ever saw anyone do some that rash and stupid up there on top of Summit Hill. What a waste that would have been.

You get all kinds of people. For the most part they are harmless. Once in a while they are not. I still have my tire thumper in the corner with some notches in it from peoples knot schooling. Thump behave. Thump stop it. Thump what part of *&^% off don't you comprehend? Thump thump thump.

One mad mad had a misunderstanding when his little pixie ran back to him claiming I molested her. That took some really fast and rapid diplomacy. You see that person sleeping under the blanket in that tractor.

    YAH...

That is my wife, I don't need any pretty with her around. Imagine the trouble i would get into.

    Oh.

and that's the end of that. Good thing too. Mr Mad mad was bulking up in the most dangeous of ways. Just one of those situations where you are unsure if you have a future after 5 minutes from now. Heck if I had my colt, I don't think the rounds will penetrate that thick muscle in front of his chest wall. Never mind the ribs and heart... SHEESH.

Finally my favorite kind of follower. Following me to the row where Im parked. I stop and ask the kid, can I help YOU? Beat it. Oh he wanted to sell me some sort of signlanguage packet for two bucks to benefit his workshop.

That usually causes me to lose my temper. A new generation of deafie meekly sitting inside a workshop folding envelopes instead of doing something righteous with life like being a trucker. But no hes a parasite for the overlords in that workshop.

I break out the old formal english signlanguage and then start chewing him out. What's the matta with you. You graduate? you got to get to work, get married raise a family buy a home etc what is matta with you selling this crap packets. What's wrong with you etc etc etc really ham it up.

His eyes get this big and he does not believe that I am a trucker and deaf too.

Usually that's the last I see of him too. I hope he's out there running a dump truck or something. He better.

For some reason they think they can draft your trailer and save on gasoline. It really sounds stupid on paper. You can shake them by slowing down. Whatever you do be careful and don't provoke the situation. You might be up against a crazy with a gun. You never know. I've had many situations since I've been delivering gasoline. Being in the city with a truck and trailer that is 85' long brings more situations than being OTR. Most people are aware of what is going on and will work with you. Once you start to slow down, if they are kind, they will come around you and be gone. That's just one little item that you can let it get under your skin or you can just chalk it up to another lousy driver.

Yes carrying that kind of freight your about the only one i could understand why your worried about who's behind you it reminds of a documentary when the DEA was moving all the marijuana confiscated from drug traffickers on the US / Mexico border to be destroyed at a top secret disposal yard they have armored cars front and back and i'm sure they'd be very suspicious of anyone following them for a long period of time. apart from that who's following me wouldn't be an issue at all.
