Was told it was to slowly cool thengine.
Is this because thengine could cool too rapidly when descending?
    Thank you.

Usually, it's for a pit stop, you don't want to stop ascending the hill, so you stop at the top. Cooling the engine has nothing to do with it.

And you don't want to stop after the crown of the hill because it's somewhat difficult to see what's coming when you start to pull out.

BRAKE CHECK AREA! Why stop at the top when your engine just pulled a grade? It's hot! Keep rolling to cool the motor. Next.

All of the above! Good time to make a pitstop, and check brakes, and do a load check. And if the you have been moving for a while stretching your legs is always good too. The engines seem to cool off quick enough IMO.

Why are your brakes on fire at the top of the hill driver?

Usually, it's for a pit quit, you don't want to quit growing the hill, so you quit at the top. Ac the method has nothing to do with it.
