I don't stop.
-
Some driver' stops at the top to ponder and let the imagination run wild.
I'm going to slide it out of gear, release the brakes, take both feet off the controls and let it rip. when I start rolling, grab the mike and scream "make a hole, I coming down the mountain...."
Bubba hollars back, "you crazy son of a .....................CRASH".
Then he comes to his senses after a moment and thinks, that's NUTS!
-
Why stop for a brake fire, keep going and keep the smoke behind you.
Elvenhome21 and Rollover the Original Thank this. -
Or just kick it of gear and " Let it Roll !" you'll be fine ! the recruiter said so.
Rollover the Original and Elvenhome21 Thank this. -
In some instances, its the law to stop and then proceed. This coaxes the driver into using a lower gear, or to check or cool brakes. Also, maybe they need to take a break in which it is difficult to get a load going on an incline and much easier on a decline. Hope this helps.

i stop because the sign says i have to. otherwise i dont. never understood the sense of heating up the brakes before you ever start down the hill.
-
Stop to check the brakes, let them cool, and start down the hill at a slower speed, and to admire the view from up high, take pictures, etc.
Mud Dog Thanks this. -
If you heat up your brakes going up hill I #### sure don't wanna be in front of you going down!
Boonie and kw9's rock Thank this. -
Ill stop for all previous good reasons. I'm 1 of the most cautious drivers on steep hills. No I'm not scared just Smart. SuperTrucking Jimmy can come flyin past me all day long but I refuse to act stew-ped and have to hit the sand pit.
