Why do truckers park their rigs at the top of passes?

    you heat them when you have to stop at the top. look at mt. eagle. you pull in amd stop untill the.light turns green. do you think your brakes cool back off from that stop in the time the light is red?

    stop at top of passes because it easier to get back up to speed going downhill as opposed to starting up hill.

    If its summer time I try to plan my trips so I can take my 10 or 8 at the top and enjoy a nice cool night for free

    Just had a friend tell me he found his jakes weren't working while coming down the Cascades. Fumbling around, he bumped the clutch and the jakes came on. Apparently the spring on the clutch pedal was weak or the switch was poorly adjusted. Something to consider after you start down that grade.:biggrin_2552:

    Can't say I've been over that 1. Maybe I drive different. Unless I have to I don't touch the brakes til I stop. Drop gears and let nature slow me.
