Newtronics (Hustler) have been making center-loaded antennas for 50 years. Their smaller ones have about a 22" shaft and similar sized whip, but if you use the large resonators, you can build one with either a 22" or a 54" shaft.
Why do truckers use linear amplilfiers with their CB radios?

I am currently using the Hustler Q27 on a volvo and it works great, maybe the best receiving antenna Ive used. The shaft is 31", the coil is 6", and the stinger is 18" so overall height just over 4.5 feet and stinger is held in place with an adjustable screw, not the cheap little set screw like on a Wilson 2000, so its really easy to tune swr.CW Spook Thanks this.

I've never known of freezing to present a problem with anything except motorized screwdriver antennas, but I suppose if moisture condensed inside the coil it could be a problem with any antenna that has a covered coil.
fargonaz and bored silly Thank this. -
Just stayed the night at the hook when it happened... I stick with steel or should i say aluminum antennas and spray it with WD 40 and I have no issues...wolverine11 Thanks this.
