Why do truckers use linear amplilfiers with their CB radios?

I don't have a linear amp, just a regular one and it works real well on AM/SSB

 

What happens if you put 800 watts into the hundred watt amplifier? Does it reduce it back to 100 Watts?

I want a linear amplifier with my new CB I'm going to purchase. If you have the money to spend then Spend Your Money as you Please.

 

Not as well as you think.

You can always pick out the folks on SSB using non-linear (class C) amps, they sound like #### and you can hardly understand them.
