Well, we ARE over regulated. Not just in trucking, either.
However, there are still some out here who really enjoy this line of work. And no regulations are going to put them out of work. They'll just adapt, or flat out ignore the laws. They will do what they need to, and worry about the repurcussions later. Now, that doesn't make it right to run 36 hours nonstop, popping little pills to stay awake, but, I think those cases are pretty rare these days.
Simply put, some are just doing their jobs, ignoring all the noise about ELD's speed limiters, CSA, DAC, and whatever alphabet soup acronym they come up with next. And loving life because of it.
You wanna know what the most liberating feeling in my driving career is? Going from a 65 mph truck, to a wide open, ungoverned truck. And not because I want to drive 85 all day long. But it allows me to do whatever I want. If I want to travel in a pack of mega fleet governed trucks, I can. If I want to stretch my legs and run with bullhaulers, I can. And ironically, I find myself doing the speed limit, or five over most times. I enjoy it, because I can.
Why Do You Exceed The Speed Limit?

Not being vile at all my friend. I'm just stating my opinion that our OP seems very unhappy in his career (as evidenced by multiple threads berating others for their driving) and maybe it would be good to explore other options.
That's the beauty of this country you know. We all can agree to disagree on thingsspyder7723, Lepton1, x1Heavy and 1 other person Thank this. -
Pulled this off FB....
"Here you go Albany. 85mph down I-88 on the phone. I know for a fact that those are equipped with Bluetooth. Plate says, New York State Senate 56"
I'm just sharing........do as I say I guess. -
I wish I knew one tenth of what some people thought they knew! If you know how everything should be done what you doing driving a truck?

The weigh stations and inspection bays have nothing to do with safety and everything to do with revenue
The California speed limit is a revenue thing. When the rest of the country upped theirs California was smart enough to realize hey that guy drives from the East coast at 70 plus it will become habit. With all major companies putting the limiter at 62 plus, well that's a bonus.
Very little if any of these regulations are about safety more so about revenue.RockinChair Thanks this. -
And yes, I agree, weigh stations and inspection bays are a revenue generator now days. But they still do kind of keep us at least a little more honestspyder7723, MachoCyclone, wore out and 1 other person Thank this. -

Our trucks aren't governed. We figure that if our drivers are the sensible and mature people we think they are they'll know when they can stretch it out and when they shouldn't.
They know what happens if they get a speeding ticket...first offense is a warning letter, second offense is a week off without pay, third offense is unemployment. So far we haven't had to use option three at all and option two only a very few times.
Paying the drivers by the hour helps too. We'd rather pay the drivers than the insurance company.
Now, that being said I, was bringing one of the new trucks back from the shop in Sacramento and found myself doing 75 up I5 without realizing I was going that fast. It was fun but I figured I'd have to write myself a warning letter if I got caught so I kicked it down to 60.Lepton1 Thanks this.
