im just wondering how many of you hate the wonderful state of ca?
and WHY you hate that state..
iv recently spent a lot of time out there, 2 months straight to be exact.
and i had zero problems out there, parking was never an issue, driving 62 was not a problem, even running 65 was no big deal as chp was cruzin by me.
traffic was not much of a problem as long as you gave yourself ample time for traffic, parking on the ramps to sleep i was never bothered.
no truck rts were ever an issue. hardly any tolls, so that was nice.
ideling the truck all night cause it was 100 out at night, i was never bothered by anybody about running my truck when i had to.. so im wondering, why do i hear so many people say
oh, Cali. is ripped out of my map books, i dont go to cal.
i can think of worse states to drive a truck,
the entire NE to make it quick,
vt is prob one of the most non-trucker friendly state in my books, va is righ there with them.
so how come? why does eveyone hate cali so much?
why do YOU hate CA?

All this coming from a NON tax paying NON resident.
OH...and never pulled a load of produce out of Cali in yer life.

Bite me
southernpride Thanks this. -
BECAUSE, California thinks they are special, and sets emissions requirements that go against the rest of the country. So if you are an owner operator and have an older tractor you may be prohibited from going there.

ok, 2 things,
i did mean HATE, not HARE,
also, i guess i really didnt think about the whole o/o view of it, so all those guys i hear say they dont have calif in their map books are prob o.o's?
i guess in that matter i understand... -
Drivers love to hate on CA, but I spent much of my OTR time in CA. I treated it like OH and never had any problems. I think much of the problems in CA are that they have stricter rules, they give less tolerance for screwing up, and many drivers expect to do what they've always done and enforcement is interpreted as a personal insult. It seems some drivers buy or drive fast trucks and think that means they don't have to watch speed limit signs. They think the world is one big parking lot and warning signs are for losers. If your attitude is "what are the rules, so I can follow them" you won't have many problems. If your attitude is "but I always do X, what do you mean I can't do X?" you will have problems everywhere.
If you think the fact you are late, hungry, tired means the rules don't apply to you stay out of CA. If you understand it's your job to read every speed limit sign or every truck lane restriction sign and comply you are in fine shape. No, there aren't warning signs for trucks to stay in the right lanes every 2 miles, but a wise driver with any hearing knows CA is looking to bust you so stay right. No, CA doesn't warn you to keep flashers off while moving slowly up/down hills but many local drivers will alert you if you creep along with your 4-ways going.
Just treat CA like you would treat a trip into any other hostile area and you will be OK. I drove everywhere, including CA and OH and was always careful to keep my speed within 4-5 mph of the posted limit and didn't have to worry about radar. I think too many drivers believe the lie some driver got a 1mph speeding ticket and then foolishly choose to just drive too fast because they don't pay attention or put too much faith in the CB.
Drive like the boss and the cops are following you and you will have very few problems.heavyhauler23 and nakoBilly Thank this. -
Tscottme the only part of your statement that is wrong is the 4-ways. I live in Calif and use my 4 ways going up the Siskoyus, Grapevine, and the Cajon grades and haven't been pulled over by CHP yet. Yes in some areas you can sneak by doing 65 in some areas, but I don't recomend it. I even had a DOT Bear at the Banning scales tell me the reason that 90% of the drivers that get tickets there is due to their attiude.
nakoBilly Thanks this. -
Scuby you are wrong. It IS against CA. law to run with you 4-ways on. I ask a CHP DOT cop about it 3 months ago. He showed it to me and it dose say that it is a violation to move with you 4-ways on unless it's and emergence.

Because of stupid al gore and his possy of environmentalists that ends up costing me more and more money as a o/o!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't hate it i have loads to and from cali every week but it makes everything more difficult.

Split speed limits.....
Rest stops are being shut down.....
CARB regs.....
Taxes for O/O's IRPed in CA.....
4-Wheelers who think it's ok to cut-off a truck in heavy traffic and then slam on their brakes.....
Bottom line...CA sucks......It's going to be part of Mexico anyways.....The farms are all dying because all of the water used for irrigation is heading straight for the Bay......
I could go on.....Not enough bandwidth to explain it all though....
GuysLady Thanks this. -
working class, id like to hear more. really i would
i just dont understand the company drivers that have anything to say about that state, they dont pay for anything truck related, and if they recieve a ticket in cal, they are the ones responsable for that ticket, we are supposed to no the laws of each state we operate in weather they are posted on signs along the highway or not. i no i have been places wondering to myself if i belong there or not, but i always make sure i can be where i am. weather its calling the shipper reciever, or spesific directions via qc in the truck.
other then the regs, such as card, why els do others hate that state so much, if u dont live there, and only drop off/pick up, whats the deal?
also, can anybody tell me weather or not you can idel ur truck if u have a pet in the cab while ur in calif?
