New CDL holder here looking forward to OTR. Live like a gypsy while earning a paycheck...adventure of a deployment without getting shot at (and don't have to shave)...perfect opportunity for spiritual enlightenment, a vision quest if you will! ;) Did I mention I get to try some interesting things with my facial hair?!

Not always, maybe in your area there was enough local positions you didn't need to, but unfortunately not everyone is that lucky

    Opportunities for new drivers?

I've got 2 mos experience, Twic and tanker.

Ready to do something local, already tired of otr. Willing to relocate.

I don't recommend moving to California, but if your game... Rinehart Oil is a fuel hauler in Ukiah, Ca. There is a sandwich board outside the office looking for drivers right now. They hire new drivers. Bettendorf Trucking isn't based in Ukiah, but is hiring for drivers in Ukiah (ad on craigslist right now). Their website says they have a new driver program.

Anyway, your best bet is to decide where you want to live and find a job there versus relocating to some place you don't know you will like for a lousy truck driving job...

The jobs are out there!! Good luck.

I live in the northeast in PA 40 mins north of Philly. If i had to drive these roads locally every day i would go into a nut house dealing with the traffic and crazy drivers.

Haha. Welcome to my world brother! Philly is one of the worst cities to drive in. I think it's worse than NYC. At least NYC the rules are enforced pretty consistently. Outside of Kelly & Lincoln drives trucks pretty much attempt going anywhere in northeast PA

That's why you become a vampire.. I live 30 miles north of Harrisburg. We spend alot of time around Allentown, Reading, Lancaster and Harrisburg. I've done it in daytime and it sucks. Nighttime is a whole other story. It's actually fun at night.
