I'll bet it's not written anywhere because it's illegal. The state can not extend the hours, it must come from the FMCSA.
Why does everyone think you have to go otr?

The FMCSA has addressed every issue that has come into conflict with their rules and the rules that a state may come up with. Some are very easy to understand and others are confusing, of course this is typical of the feds. For example the CDL testing, this is what the feds say. Part 383-Commercial Drivers License Standards; Requirements And Penalties- 383.3pplicability; (a) The rules in this part apply to every person who operates a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) in interstate commerce, to all employers of such persons, and to all states.
FMCSR Part 390- Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations; General. Subpart B - General Requirements and Information. 390.9 State and local laws, effect on. 390.9 State and local laws, effect on. Except as otherwise specifically indicated, Subchapter B of this chapter is not intended to preclude States or subdivisions thereof from establishing or enforcing State or local laws relating to safety, the compliance with which would not prevent full compliance with these regulations by the person subject thereto.
They are very explicate on some topics and vague on others. If it were me that I was a driver for another company or intrastate I would go deeper into the FMCSA rules and regulations. However, I have found that when the states are in conflict with the FMCSA the FMCSA just puts out a blanket state that's reveals hardly anything. They take the road that you can not lessen my rules but your more than happy to enhance them. -
States may enhance the base rules set up for interstate commerce but the rules simply don't apply to intrastate drivers so the States are free to right their rules anyway that wish.
So if CA wants to allow a local driver to work a 16 hour day without recording it then they certainly can do that even if it's the n conflict with Fed Regs as long as said driver doesn't leave the State, at which point the Fed Regs then kick in and the Driver is now subject to a different set of rules. -
The farthest I've gone is 50 miles i am a O/O so i am making alright money. My fuel is $100 bucks a week. Come home around 4 or around that range. Just bought a new truck might run some otr route to take advantage of that one year warranty plus road service. My truck note is $750 a month dropped nearly 25k down. So its possible to survive locally. But in this industry you have to be flexible. Go where the money is

Here it is the 1 out of 10 thousand drivers who knew someone so they landed a local job out of trucking school so they come in here and ask the dumb question like they don't know the answer if you found a local job out of school good for you but don't act like it's a normal thing for small local companies to hire new students when your new chances are your going to be otr and extremely under paid for a while then when you prove you can do the job it starts paying better congratulations on skipping this step your special that's what you want to hear your just special.Locke and flightwatch Thank this. -

60 miles South of me is a bigger city of 80,000+. Just last week I saw a major LTL carrier had a banner out saying they hire CDL School Graduates. I can go on and on. So It maybe 1 out of 10 Thousand who start local (that number sounds a little low) but they didn't need to know someone to land a local job.
