Thats why you need to specialize with Landstar. Once youve been here for a year, you need to better yourself. You should have, by then, been in contact with different agents, and maybe take a securement class through Landstar, and do flat or step. They help you finance equipment as well. Im on my second van, and am planning to buy a step with curtainside. That gives me keverage, if van slows, i can go home and pick up step and keep moving. Its trial and error, learning the system, who has what freight, and what freight pays better at certain times of the year. For instance, we know reefer drivers take dry van freight from us in the winter which causes our rates to drop, so it would then be beneficial to grab the step.
why does landstar pay alot more

Is there plenty of freight for a Conestoga in Midwest and Southeast?
Are there loads inbound and outbound California requiring a Conestoga? -
There are loads posted for conestoga.... but I would say the majority of the good stuff is never posted just like other platform equipment @ landstar.

Top Landstar owner ops with a truck that is paid off hauling van will pocket $60,000 after expenses. They advertised this in the trucker magazine from TA 2 years ago. What a #### joke. Drive company truck make more than that ridiculous low amount.
