Why does pulling car trailers pay so much more than most trucking jobs?

One of the most challenging things about auto transport is squeezing blood from a stone- OOPS, I means more money outta brokers LOL. This one cat in Santa Fe Springs told me they can guarantee a full load up and back to the Bay area, BUT they only pay $200 a car, for a 400 mile trip. Maybe if I had a 10 car, which would probably hold 8 cars mixed, it might be close to worth it, but not with my 3 or even a 5 car trailer. Friggin crackheads.... his cars can sit for all I care.

While I agree that it is in your best interest to get the most you can per car, and only put what is right for you on your truck. From the shippers standpoint (and I realize that dealers, etc. are trying to get transport for nothing). If I had 20 vehicles to get to NorCal and they can go on 2 10 unit loads, and I could move each 10 car for 2 grand ($200 per unit), why would I want 10 guys with 2 car trailers doing the move, at more money just because they bought a 2 car?
However, like I mentioned, dealers can be sleazebags. They have no problem squeezing and squeezing. They are always looking to cut the price. I have told them..."If I agree to cut my price to you for transport, if I buy a car from you will you discount my price to service the vehicle?" They change their tune quick.

Scratch a Bentley, it's around $2500 to fix and you have to find a shop that will handle their paint they use which you're average body shop or Scratch and Dent guy won't handle as it's very expensive.

Personally i think the 2 biggest things that hurt Car Haulers and I KNOW ill get BS about this is
1.Load Boards aka sites like Central back then you had to know someone to get your cars moved you didnt have a site where bottom feeders could kill rates
2.Here is comes LOL 3/4 car wedges and Quick loaders as much as i love them.

I mean tell me how many of these guys today would still be or try to be a car hauler if all they had where stingers to load? i bet 50% would be no where to be found.

I've moved a few that way, one I moved had a scratch of some sort on every panel and wheel of the car.

I started out in car hauling with a 3/4 wedge and then quickly moved up to a 7 car quickload type trailer, you can make decent money with a wedge if you haul the stuff others can't such as vans and sprinters but if you just have 3 cars then you might suck salt....

I also have had drivers working for me who have been driving since the 70's hauling steel etc. but they could not haul cars!!!, one hit a low bridge ($35,000 damage) another some low trees with a load of new landrovers with glass tops ( $21,000) and the last did a scratch job on a custom 50's chev ( $10,000) and took off a landrover antenna and broke its holder ($1500)
4 trucks and 3 drivers who did not drive looking up!!!! when I drive I must look drunk as I am swerving thru town dodging low branches and releasing air to lower the truck for low bridges

So, car haulers make good money but if not careful you will spend it replacing or repairing and even though you may fix a problem it won't be long before the broker or dealer will simply not want your services, I was lucky ????? if you want to call it that, that I didn't loose any business but did learn not to hire anyone without a lot of car experience, and if they have a lot of experience they are either running their own gig or their boss keeps them happy which keeps them from looking

Here's one for everyone! l got this guy , wants me to haul a Ford F-550 from Phoenix to Boise, and only wants to pay 600.00, plus he wants me to pick up a 20 ft. boat in Las Vegas, and only wants to pay 300.00 for it. I got a 53 ft. Boydstun 4 car, and told him that the F-550 was 1500.00, and the boat was 800.00. He finally agreed, finally got him to understand that the F-550 was 23ft long, and heavy, x-cab, with a 14ft. flatbed, and a diesel engine. The boat, 23ft from the prop, to the tongue of the trailer. That 46 ft. of deck space, leaving no room for 1 more car. So basically he is going to pay for the whole truck. He wasn't happy about the price, saying he could get them hauled for a lot less. I told him to find someone else. He called back 3 hours later and asked when I could pick them up. That will be in the morning! 2300.00 bucks, and I'll be home for Christmas!!! Speaking of Christmas, MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!!!!!
