As just a regular car on the road, see often a "semi" passing another "semi" at nearly the same speed. Takes FOREVER to complete his pass, so I can resume my (speed limit crowding) pace. Is there a reason trucks take so long to complete a pass? Like have we done something stupid and a rolling roadblock is to let us know? Are trucks speed controlled or is it for fuel mileage? Heck I know the road belongs to trucks too. My work was to BUILD the Interstate before retirement. Just curious.

Because one truck is running at the max speed the company allows and the other is too.

Both are most likely running on the floor so to speak and they have to make the most of their drive time under the rules.

Because they're idiots and the one being passed won't back off momentarily to let the other one pass....

one truck might be running 63.7mph in the slow lane and the passing truck might be running 64.2mph.
other reasons might be that the passing truck dont care about anyone behind them will just take his sweet time instead of getting on the pedal.

I do as well if I'm being passed slowly. I also will bump the cruise up a few mph to complete a pass since my truck isn't governed.

Nothing like a 63 mph drag race to get your dander up, especially if you're wanting to go. Happened to me the other day on I40 between Jackson Tenn and exit 126. I had been to a Dr.'s apt in Jackson and was headed home in my pick up. A white truck with blue letters pulls out to pass a covered wagon. Eight miles later the covered wagon finally backs out of it so the white truck with blue letters can complete the pass. There was almost 3/4 mile traffic jam behind them. They either think its funny or they got shxx for brains.

As a governed driver this is a big pet peeve of mine. My truck goes 63, many trucks are set at 62. If I'm being passed by a 64mph truck I just let off the throttle for about 5 seconds and the other truck is past. I also wait if possible to attempt my pass when there is little traffic behind me. I will confess though that I won't come out in the left lane if there is a big truck coming up behind me, but I don't mind holding up a four wheeler or two while passing. ;)

    Speaking of idiots....
I saw a Central Reefer pass a Werner....Central changed lanes with 2' between his DOT bumper and Werner's tractor bumper....WTH?!!!!!:biggrin_2554:

I passed up Central and changed lanes when I saw his headlamps in my mirror....
Then I got on the radio and told Central that's how a good driver changes lanes....

All Mr. Central could do was say was "You're breaking up....I can't hear you"....
Yeah Right....200W radio can't be that hard to hear......:biggrin_25523:

I think most guy/gals are just conserving fuel. I usually get by as fast as possible, signal & complete a safe lane change.
