Man most of the time i hear people on the cb theyre just spewing useless crap. :( I wish CB was like it used to be.

It's the new breed, thats what happened. They think they dont need CB because they have the internet and a cell phone. Or they get laid over and sit around making annoying noises on the cb.

i have to admit every once in a while ive done something obnoxious on the cb. But not...more than just a couple key ups a day.

Most of the time i have actual conversations with someone its an old timer. Whats that tell you?

Sometimes i try to get some local and nobody will even give it up. :(

And the last couple of days we've had skip on all 40 channels, and so i have to keep my squelch up kind of high, which limits my range to around 5 miles. I don't really want to hear all day worth of 100 people bragging about how much power they're using on skip. What a bunch of morons. Skip doesnt even require 1 watt.

So you don't think that's a problem? If you're on a busy stretch of interstate, especially near a truck stop or large city, there are probably 3-500 people with CBs listening. All of those people have to listen to whatever foolishness you and, say, 27 other people key up with "just a couple of key ups a day." It adds up pretty fast. I don't think you have any room to complain.

I get tired of hearing about the "new breed." You hear about it from guys sitting at the counter at the truckstop bragging about telling off their dispatcher or a diesel bear. I heard about the "new breed" when I started driving in '03, and I've come to discover that most guys that talk about the "new breed" are guys that complain about some of the very things they've done themselves a couple of times. You always hear guys talk about how it used to be that when a truck was broke down another truck was always stopped helping him, but now that the "new breed" is in, you don't get that anymore. Evidently the guys whining about the "new breed" don't stop either, but I'm sure they/you have some way of justifying their/your actions.

I for one also think that there is a lot of talk on the radio that does'nt need to be there, I say if two or three drivers wish to debate politics, religion or why the world is so screwed up , They should agree to meet somewhere and dicuss thier views over coffee. It's rather discerning trying to carry on a conversation or find out about road conditions and the like when a couple of drivers are argueing on why there view is more right than anyone elses'.
Also putting down companies and the drivers thereof, in my opinion, is somewhat immature,,(ooh stepped on some toes there) There are good drivers and bad all over the highway. To bunch all the drivers of a company into one mold is crazy. But I hear it on the radio all time,, which is why when I stop for my break at a trk stop I turn it OFF.

It's not a problem. Aint like im sittin there all day saying "aint got no panties on", or repeatedly clickin my mic for a good buddy.

You know whats annoying? There was some people working "skip" last night on 20 and totally ruining channel 19. I dont know why people think skip requires 3000+ watts.

The new breed is true atleast for the CB. I dont usually whine about them. It is what it is.

But go tell the average person you have a CB in your car, dont mention being a trucker....you know what they'll say? "why?" "dont you have a cell phone?" "cell phones are better" "the internet is better". The latest generation of kids that just grew up (including myself, but i dont act like them in the bad regards!), dont GET IT. They dont seem to understand that two way radios always work. They dont seem to understand that cell phone towers can get destroyed by tornados, earthquakes, etc. They dont seem to understand that some places just dont have a cell phone signal.

So yeah, they think its worthless. I happen to mess with CBs as a hobby. I find them very interesting..

gladiator, there are 40 channels. They dont have to do it on 19.

I'm just saying that there are enough people on CB that it just takes a small percentage fooling around on air to really make it a pain to listen to. Just like it just takes a small percentage of motorists littering to trash up the roads for everyone. What's the difference between you and 24 other people doing it twice a day and one idiot doing it 50 times a day?

I'm totally with you on there being too much garbage and too many overmodulated radios on the air.

I agree.. I used to enjoy all the radio chatter. There used to be a day when you could pick up the mic and call out a certain truck and you were sure to get an answer. No Longer. Its to bad all those idiots with the annoying toys, and the guys who act like children have forced so many to turn there radios off! Its was a great tradition in our industry for many of years. Im sad to see it almost gone!

My reasons are 1)Too much exposure to so much negative remarks, and aggravation, with no real value to the poor info that you do get; 2)satellite radio came along; 3)55mph speed limit ended and many trucks got governed to below the posted limits in most places.

Me too! I started driving in 95 and all the rookies were the new breed then too. I would bet the new breed ain't all that new. Just relative to your age and your being secure enough to help a new guy learn the ropes instead of trying to run him out.
