this was an interesting read- yes every single post
my answer why goes back in the 70s and 80s when you only talked on the cb to report a bear, inquire about the scales, find a truckstop, directions to customers, and most of all to get help whether emergency or equipment failure. speaking of which, there you are on the shoulder with the cabover cranked up and all your belongings across the windshield... and 5 or 10 drivers would stop to try and help you. each with a different tool or parts.
so much crap on the cb now and whats with the attitude not giving a rip about anyone. not too much respect around, except for those of us that been in the business for years, or those family members of truckers.
Why doesn't anyone talk on the radio anymore?

The CB was a cool thing but like what was said above the cursing and all the other stuff it's just no fun anymore but I still think it sucks when your siting in dead stop traffic in the middle of nowhere and you get on the CB hey north/south bound which ever one what did you leave behind you and you get nothing or a truck passes you flash the lights you missed me driver you get a thank you not anymore I know that we all have to accept that the old days are gone but it still sucks

Why the idiots act the way they do on the air: (NSFW: Language)

I keep a CB on 19, turned down with squelch on maximum. Most of my attention is on 14.336, or 28.336 (or 28.400) when the band is open.Honch Thanks this. -
I just got mine but I'm not a trucker so I figure it's probably for the best not to key up unless I have a question or answer. Don't got to much to share but I'm new the idea is still fun but time will tell...

I can tell you from a personal stand point I stopped listening to the cb chatter years ago. To many drivers are cussing and swearing about everything under the sun. Then theirs the ones who know everything about everything and most of it is just garbage. From time to time I use mine to find out about traffic but mostly now just to sign in at shippers. This is my opinion but their it is.
thecleaninglady Thanks this. -
I always have mine on, but never talk on it unless I see someone I know. For the same reason this is my first post. The CB has become basically a verbal online forum. Anything anyone says will be bashed in some way. But, just like the internet, if you filter through the crap you can actually get an answer.
