Why doesn't anyone talk on the radio anymore?

Truck stops are the worst. Especially on Sunday morning. Always some guy with monster box blabbing away about everything until someone tells him to shut the #### up. Then they sit and play CB bad ###.

Then a "bigger" box gets lit up,dead-keyed and said dipstick fades back to where ever they fade to ?:biggrin_2559:
    SILENCE falls on all radios with-in 2-3 miles . . . . . :biggrin_25514:
People need to understand the little 300-500 watt box's
are not top dog rigs and can be SMASHED with relitive ease, yet they still try :biggrin_25526:

Hood Rat hunting should be a national sport IMO:yes2557:

Well that's probably another reason why CBer's have quit talking....if someone decides to tie up the air by keeping a constant dead key.

But with CB so dead as it seems I'm surprised we don't see less new radios sold and more old used radios avaliable.

I've heard there's also been a decline in ham radio use too.

Heck ...... When i am on the road i have never had any problem getting an response or any problem striking up a conversation.... Now the hand might be 3 states away but i have never had dead silence on my radio.... Coast to coast radios live large and live loud..... Side band bandits....... But driver dont expect to buy an cobra 29 and get too much attention unless you put some swing on that thing. Cactus jacks got your back... Be cool on the stool and keep the shiny side up . And i am back out!!!!

I listen to a lot of talk radio also...but the bad thing about talk radio is the hosts make a living out of 'type casting' people...some of them paint a very nasty picture of the world or community you live in...to the point where you don't want to talk to know one...

With the cb radio...you get to 'know' people or a person...rather than judge them because of a generalization a talk show host put in your mind...
Art Bell...or coast to coast with Goerge Norry...now I like that show...Norry will never capture Art Bells majic though...

After being blasted with hostile angry political talk show hosts all day...it's nice to tune into Coast to Coast at night...and hear other perspectives that have nothing to do with politics...

I'm actually seeing quite a few "new" hams coming in on the technician ticket. In fact, my local club here has a very young fella, I believe he is all of seven years old. He just upgraded from technician to general a couple of months ago.

But what I believe is that the "traditional role" of ham radio being the only thing that gets through in emergency situations, has sort of gone by the wayside. I believe it is primarily because of the Internet, and the cell phone. Of course we also use the Internet in ham radio.

But from what I am seeing with my admittedly very limited experience in it, is that amateur radio has pretty much been outdated by other means of communication. But it is still a fascinating hobby, and it's great for those areas where there is no cell service available.

Check out the ARRL website. It gives you a lot of information. You can get both technician and general tickets now without the "code test."

Just want to be legal with the use of the other channels on the radio if I go there.
