Responding to the OP's original question. Couple weeks ago, I was at the house doing some fall cleaning to the interior/exterior of my truck. I had the CB turned on, and turned up fairly loudly, and was listening to a couple good old boys jacking their jaws. Two of the neighbor boys that live directly beside me aged about 7 and 10 were out playing in the yard. Its hard to see from their property to mine as there is a fairly heavy row of evergreens planted in between. As the truckers continued to carry on their convo, I noticed the boys had gravitated near my truck. It became evident that the boys were actually listening, and quite enthralled with the goings-on. At first I was going to shut the CB off, as I didn't want to be responsible for those little guys learning a few new curse words that day, but the guys on the radio hadn't said anything dirty at all. They were insinuating here and there, but they never crossed the line. No more than Carole Burnett or good old Red Skelton would have done on tv back in the day. I actually turned the radio up just a little all the while pretending I didn't know the kids were there. I kept hearing little giggles coming from the trees, and those kids had sat down out there and were just listening. I sincerely wanted to get on the radio, and tell those truckers what I had just witnessed and to thank them for keeping filth off the radio. They actually had me laughing along with them, and it reminded me of the old days when I first started driving a truck, you didn't have to have a filth mouth to make a point over the CB.
I was at the Petro truck stop at Oak Grove, MO today listing to a bunch of truckers on the air, echo boards going, carrying on about everything and anything. One guy actually keys up and says "That's why you don't have as many on the CB anymore, all thebig radios with roger beeps and echos, blah blah blah..." Then someone keyed up and said "Who on here has a big radio? Mine's barefoot" and "If you don't like it then scrape together some money and get you one..." Then someone else got on trying to sell a Dale Earnhardt Sr. Cobra 29 with echo and peak and tune, "I have $189 in the radio alone", and "I am selling my 2 antennas and mic minus the coax for $225".
I WENT TO THE RADIO SHOP AND HAD AN knob added TO THE SIDE HOOKED UP TO AN DIMMER FOR THE LIGHT BECAUSE IT WAS SO BRIGHT.... MIGHT TRY THAT.... IF THEY SAY THEY CANT GO TO AN REAL RADIO SHOP..... RANGER HILL TEXAS HAS A GOOD ONE!
Ranger Hill CB has moved to Exit #470-I/20 East Tween Pilot and the Weiner yard at the old truck wash.
wow... I havent been out there to ranger texas in about 9 months ...... But i guess they will definately get more business!!!!
Good idea, and its actually on my to do list. I actually pulled the top off once before to investigate doing the same thing. Looks like it would be pretty easy to add a resistor or even better your idea of a potentiometer with dial knob.
