Why don’t lifeguards get athletes foot?

Lifeguards use common showers all day long to rinse off after swimming in the ocean. Any other group that uses community showers are prone to getting foot fungus. It’s the salt water. It kills athletes foot real good.

After having some bad Texas toe funk for months and using every over the counter remedy I could find I decided to get serious. Turns out the best remedy is to put a cup of epsom salt into one of those foot sized plastic totes and add about three inches of hot water. Put your foot in. You will feel it immediately attacking the toe funk. This immediately turned the tide of the long battle and after a few weeks of twice daily salting the toe funk is no more.

I've never had it even all the yrs showering in truck stops with no flip flops on, on a ship in the Navy, or in country in Nam.

I think I avoided it mainly by going barefoot as much as possible. shoot I only wear shoes now when I go out on errands. haven't worn socks in months. lol

Lysol wipes kills toe fungus really well also.

 

I had it real bad one time when I was about 20 yrs. old. Went to Navy sickbay and they couldn't cure it.
Walked along the beach where the water just laps up on the sand; spent the day there and the salt water and sand cured it. The salt water and sand, sanded it off like using sandpaper. Hurt like crazy for a couple of days, but no problems at all since then.

 

I always used alcohol.

 

That's probably why mouthwash works also.

 

Alcohol and sandpaper and steel wool probably works. If you told me the bug juice at Pilot works I’d have definitely used it cause the toe funk will drive you mad. But if it leaves your foot dried out and cracked then you are more likely to get it again. What you want is healthy skin on your feet.

 

Chinese foot massage helps also. They soak the feet in medicinal water for 15 minutes or so, then do the massage.

My Navy buddy in Tennessee, served on the USS Wichita, he was a seaman, Vietnam, anyway, we took our favorite girls to Shanghai for a couple of weeks, not too long ago. He and I did the foot massage thing. He and I wandered around reminiscing the old days.
