Why don't more companies buy gliders while they are still on the market. I can understand that megas don't buy them, they dont keep trucks too long and write them off, they have allot of money. Why don't smaller and modest fleets not buy gliders from a company like fritzgerld gliders while they still can. I think they are far superior to the junk otherwise on the market.
I know that's probably going to come to an end soon so if I owned a fleet I would buy all that I can right now. 60 series Detroit or cat 3406 anyone.... The best.

You would be surprised. Schneider runs gliders as do quite a few outfits. The reason Gliders are not as popular is that the price break is not there. These carriers don't pay sticker, they get sizable discounts, discounts that glider manufacturers cannot offer.

Because you can't run a company into the future and long term with yesterday's technology

Oxbow Thanks this.

They do run them. What makes you think they don't?

When i left roehl in 2012 they had just bought a bunch of columbia gliders. I still see them going down the road (unless they are owner ops, but I don’t think so).
I like the idea of gliders. I drove an older columbia at roehl and i liked that truck, would have been cool to have a “new” one. -
I know my company only buys emissions trucks, they have allot of problems. It's a fleet of 40 trucks. If I owned that fleet I wouldn't buy a single truck with useless def or Regen. This tech needs to be improved before shoving it down companies throats. It's junk tech.
I actually think gliders will increase in value significantly after the legalisation to ban them comes to roost.Justrucking2 Thanks this. -
I'm not promoting this CARB and EPA crap? but to say you can't still be successful and profitable with it is an indication maybe you're not doing it right. -
My company doesn't because our trucks are spec'd beyond what a glider from Fitzgerald is built. A glider spec like we would need would be upwards of 200k each. Maybe more. 70ton fifth wheels, double walled frames, beefier suspensions, traditional 6x2 and quad axles, they only replace 5 trucks a year, and if the 20 or so owner ops we have, only one has an actual glider and he doesn't haul much of our heavy stuff

My company usually keeps trucks till they are worn out. Of course they might be keeping some of the older ones now because they aren't laden with emissions crap. They have an older frieghtliner classic, a 379 peterbilt, a couple of older international eagles.... My truck a 2006 386 peterbilt, and several other older peterbilt trucks... Then they have some t660's and the newest are t880's. Maybe he feels keeping some of the older stuff around is worth it because they are less throublesome.
