Why dont truck stop drivers sitting in the lot use another channel?

I think there are some drivers' out there that aren't smart enough to know which knob changes the channel on the radio.

I had one guy the kept keying up on 19 but not saying anything, I finally said, "It works better if you talk into it." He replies back, "Well, I was tuning it." I replied, "What, you can't tune it on 18 or 20?" I didn't get a reply.......

Good idea...and it makes sense, however............

Above is a good reason it won't ever happen.

This attitude is another reason it won't work........never learned to share and practice the "golden rule"

And throw their trash and piss bottles out in parking lots where the owners are nice enough to allow them to park, then don't understand why the next time they are there it has been posted "No Truck Parking".

That does appear to be the case with some of them!!!

the same reason that the one driving down the road that wont shut up for 5 minutes or go to another channel, they are jerks that dont have any radio edicate, I have no problem with a couple of drivers that want to engage in conversation?, just take it to another channel, As for truck stop

 

the w. memphis truck stops have a guy that wont shut up about his "good green,good white, for the real deal take it to 2-7" 18hrs everyday, and everyone knows....that guy is a p.o.s. narc. tell him you are interested, you get a phone number, you call he reports the number. i heard hes been doing it like 18 yrs. if he wasnt a narc i think he would have been busted by now. plus he has a big ### radio that walks all over EVERYBODY, you know.....like the kind THE POLICE HAVE!!!!!

 

So only the police have big radios?

As to the original post, I think it's good strategy on the part of the drug dealers. Pete the Pusher shows up in his Cotvette at the local (fill in your local truck stop here) with a 4-watt Rat Shack and a rubber duckie, then says on Ch 19, "Hey, I've got great drugs here, just come blow your horn and I'll find you."
Trans AmInstantly, anywhere from 40-80 (depending upon the time of day) Kevin Kilowatts, all figuring to be parking lot vigilantes, key up and announce, "Hey, there's a guy here at (fill in name of the truck stop) and he's dealing drugs to anyone who'll blow their horn in the lot!"
So as soon as the heterodynes clear (well, more or less, depending upon distance of the ground wave from the truck stop), the last couple of guys saying it (DXers call it "tail-ending") are the ones who are heard out to the range of whatever his power is. Now Peter the Pusher with his Radio Shack portable radio has just benefited from Kevin Kilowatt's radio range, *and* he's got so many people blowing their horns that half the folks will leave the lot in disgust, making it easier for him to shop/sell/get fuel/snooze/cause more mayhem/abuse himself/whatever.

Not that I have any personal knowledge of this, mind you. I'm just a retired public safety guy and commercial radio tech with a warped sense of humor....
